Those from Armagh were: Patrick McShane, b ca 1833, from Loughall who had been in the 51st Regiment of Foot in 1853-54 and was obviously wounded and invalided. Owen McShane, b. ca 1812, from Drumcree who was in the 67th Regt from 1831-52 Bernard McShane b. ca 1830 Drumcree who had been in the 82nd Regiment from 1846-1852 (and again likely wounded or injured on duty) These records from the Public Record Office only list those who received pensions. A wounded soldier who was declared an invalid or a soldier who had served for 12 years was entitled to a pension from the Royal Pensioners Hospital in Chelsea or Kilmarnain. Only soldiers with good conduct records qualified and the pension was 1 to 2 pennies per day depending on the amount of service. What indication do you have that your ancestor was in the 11th foot? If it is fairly strong, then you could consider accessing the pay records for the 11th regiment. Let me know. Ron Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
