    3. How about a variation in spelling. Goold? My Kenny family Were Kenny on the shipping into Melbourne, could read and write and actually changed the spelling on the ships list from Canny but in County Clare they are Canny/Carney. Also one name I came across was spelt 5 different ways on 1 page of church baptisms and it was the same family. I noticed one in particular the 1830's run by the London Emigration Committee which seems to have brought thousands of young women to NSW: "..The British Government's system for assisted female emigration to New South Wales was instituted in September 1831 by Lord Goderich, and was soon extended to mechanics. Between 1832 and 1836 sixteen entire shiploads of emigrants, most of them women, were dispatched from English and Irish ports, and in addition several hundreds of young women went out under the scheme in vessels other than those chartered by the London Emigration Committee..." http://www.electricscotland.com/history/australia/scotaus3.htm As far as I can see my Anne Jane Gould was not amongst these.
