    3. Maureen: Have you considered the possibility that your grandmother and her two sisters may have been British Home Children? In Canada, descendants have been searching for their British relations, as 100,000 children (usually poor, in orphanges or workhouses) were sent here between 1868 -1948. This year has been designated Year of the British Home Children by our Canadian parliament, in recognition of the courage these children faced when sent to a struggling, harsh, mostly rural, pioneering Canada. You have probably read about that period of history as about a month ago, both Australia and Britain apologized for their part in this "expedient, opportunistic, misguided & flawed emigration to the colonies." Professor M. McNay, U of Western Ontario. Some children also went to the USA. Please contact [email protected] if you believe this emigration scheme might apply to your relatives. Thank you. Helen Query: Is there an orphanage in County Armagh? Supposedly, my Grandmother and her two sisters were temporarily put to an orphanage after their Father died and their Mother had to find work. This ould have been between 1883 and 1889. Thanks, Maureen Sausen Lincoln, Califonia
