In Canada, descendants have been searching for their British relations, as 100,000 children (usually poor, in orphanges or workhouses) were sent here between 1868 -1948. This year has been designated Year of the British Home Children by our Canadian parliament, in recognition of the courage these children faced when sent to a struggling, harsh, mostly rural, pioneering Canada.
