Author: angietough Surnames: Smyth Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.ireland.arm.general/9604.8/mb.ashx Message Board Post: My great grand uncle Daniel Smyth emigrated from Drumcree, Portadown to the USA at some time in the last quarter of the 19th century. However, we have little information other than that he was a merchant seaman before he emigrated & that he lived & died in Connecticut but we have no idea of the location or his occupation, family details etc. He must have been of some standing in his community as, on his death between 1910-1930, a copy of the local newspaper was sent to my great grandfather & the front page was edged in black in memory of Daniel. The only photo we had of him was thrown away by someone after my gran died & I am having problems finding census records that fit what little we know. We do have a photo of a lady which was taken in a photographer's studio in Thomaston, Connecticut sometime in the late 19th century & we believe she may be the wife of Daniel as the photo was sent to my great grandfather around that time. I'm sorry the details appear a little vague but! I am still working on this line of my family. On Roots Ireland Centre for Migration Studies there is a Daniel Smyth aged 26 who emograted to the USA in 1841. There are also 11 Daniel Smith's. Alan Cole
