    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: elwynsoutter1 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.ireland.arm.general/10017.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Most parish records for Armagh and the rest of Northern Ireland have been copied and can be accessed at PRONI (the public record office) in Belfast. See: www.proni.gov.uk/index/research_and_records_held/catalogues_guides_indexes_and_leaflets/online_guides_and_indexes.htm However they are not on-line, and there is no index, so to use them effectively, you need to know your ancestors parish/townland and their exact religion. The records are on microfilm. Copies of each churches records can be ordered in to your local LDS library if you are not able to access them in PRONI. There are some parish records in Ireland which go back to the 1600s but many start much later. A lot of early Church of Ireland records which, ironically had been sent to Dublin for safe keeping, were destroyed in an explosion in 1922.
