I think we are probably related. As I mentioned in my earlier post, Hugh Greer, the Son of Thomas and Elizabeth emigrated to New York State and lived at Alleghany County, New York. I know nothing else about him except that he and my great grandfather Thomas Hall returned to Ireland in 1922 to visit relatives and friends. I found this through the passport records and noted that they applied on the same date from the same place and had their passports sent to the same address in New Jersey. I still have not determined who the person was they had them sent to. So far no connection to the family. This is my mother's family and I only have two living cousins in this line. Until earlier this year, we did not know that Thomas Hall's (my great-grandfather) father also came to America and also settled at Fillmore, New York. My mother or her siblings ever mentioned this. He died the same year my mother was born and her grandmother died when she was a child. He apparently left Ireland before his sons and settled in New York with a new wife. There doesn't seem to be a record of his divorcing his first wife and no mention of her death. It is a puzzlement. All of his sons who came to the United States except my great grandfather remained in New York and still have descendants living there as well as descendants from Robert's second marriage. I would love to know more about this Greer Family. Many years ago I was with my aunt at the house where she and my mother lived as children. An unmarried uncle had been living there and we had to distribute his personal effects after he died. There was a trunk upstairs filled with pictures. She identified some of the people. She pulled a tin type which is about 6 inches in diameter out and said to me "that is Grandpa Hall's mother, Hannah Greer." I have it hanging on my wall above my desk. I went back a few months later to retrieve more of the pictures but the chest had been discarded by the new owner. The picutre shows her as a an older woman, so I have to assume she did not did before Robert left Ireland. I would certainly like to exchange notes. I can be reached directly at kadica@tds.net.
