I have found no Australian marriage. Her husband was William Ewing. No information on this person, as I haven't discovered his death certificate. Arrived in Melbourne, Australia 1843 or before. I have found no immigration details on Sarah or her husband. Children : Elizabeth bapt. 1843 St James C of E Melbourne ( no details other than parents name & occupation ( groom ) Mary bapt. 1846 St James C of E Melbourne ( no details other than parents name & occupation ( ??? ) William bapt. 1849 St James C of E Melbourne ( no details other than parents name & occupation ( coachman ) George bapt 1852 St James C of E Melbourne ( no details other than parents name & occupation ( groom ) ( prior in civil registration in Victoria, so no details of age, marriage & place of birth of parents ). Children's Marriage Certificates : Sarah's surname on certificates was spelt : McElveny ( 1864 ), McElveny ( 1868 ), McKilveny ( 1870 )& McVeney ( 1880 ). I hope this is of some assistance. 3. This is my first post to this List and I hope someone can assist me with an unusual surname. I am researching my husband's family and he has a g-g-grandmother Sarah born c1817 in Armagh. On several family marriage & death certificates her surname is spelt 'McEleveney', 'McElveny', McKillveney' and also 'McAlberness'. I have searched for these names on the Internet with little success. Can anyone suggest an Armagh surname, that may be correct. Thanks Alison Armstrong alisona@netspace.net.au

    3. Hi Alison Perhaps it is the family name McIlvenna found in north Armagh. Look at the 1901 and 1911 census for Armagh to see the name. McAleavey has a different sound and tends to be found in south Armagh Pauline www.irishhomesteads.com

It was formed from part of Tullylish and Seagoe parishes. Sturgeons do not seem to be at Seagoe in the 1820's when Ezekiel was having children. The Lockharts-wife said to be Ann Jane Harper by one researcher- are in Ballydougan and Ballynagarick next door and possibly Ballygargin. Son William and dau Ann Jane (Lockhart) McMurray have gravestones at Knocknamuckley. Again, nothing in Seagoe records so try Tullylish. Author: alibilly2 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.ireland.arm.general/2456.2460.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: My direct ancestors are Ezekiel Sturgeon and Elizabeth Henton, both born about 1800, Ballydugan, Co. Down, Ireland. Their daughter Mary Sturgeon married Thomas Lockhart and they moved to Kinloss, Bruce Co, ON. They are my 3rd great grandparents. Thomas Lockhart's sister Ann Jane Lockhart, b. 1820 married William McMurray, b. 1818. Their granddaughter Emma McMurray, b. 1883 married James Sturgeon and they are the parents of Lockhart Sturgeon. As you can see there is a major connection between the Lockharts and the Sturgeons. Kinloss is just a few miles south of Kincardine, so there could well be a connection with the Kincardine Sturgeons too. Does anyone know the names of James Sturgeon's parents (Emma McMurray's husband)? Does anyone have a deeper background on William Sturgeon, Jane Lewis' husband? They are from County Tyrone, but that is right beside Co Armagh and County Down. By the way, my Sturgeons and Lockharts are all Protestants, and I'm sure the County Tyrone ones are too. Kathleen married James Ferris and died on 6th November 1995, aged 71. As far as I am aware her sister, May, emigrated to Canada in the 1950s and died there at a reasonably young age. 1. [ARMAGH] New material added to The Silver Bowl site
    2. Sharon Oddie Brown
    3. I have just transcribed, annotated and posted another 40 or so pages worth of deeds on my web site - thanks to the help of others. Although, you can find them by going directly to the NEW section of my website, I suggest starting by reading the piece on my blog about doing them. This piece will connect you with other relevant links. These new documents focus on COULTER and DICKIE families living near Carrickastuck in Co. Louth in the mid 1700s to mid 1800s. There are dozens of other names mentioned as well, and where their particulars are known to me, I have added them into the footnotes. The people mentioned in these documents include emigrants to America, as well as family and business connections of family in Monaghan, Armagh, Down, Louth, Antrim and Dublin. There may be other counties as well. The more I do, the more I learn. The blog about doing them can be found at: http://sharonoddiebrown.blogspot.com/2011/06/have-trod-have-trod.html If you just want to cut to the chase, they are listed beside the dates June 25th & 26th, 2011 at: http://www.thesilverbowl.com/misc/whatsnew.htm I have also updated my Rootsweb tree to include new information gained from doing this work. SEE: http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=silverbowl As always, if I have made any mistakes, no matter how trivial, or if you can add to the footnotes, then please let me know. I keep fixing things up as I go, and hopefully a year from now I will dig in and do a really good cleanup of the whole site. In the meantime, I will keep adding to it - like Topsy. -- Sharon Oddie Brown, Roberts Creek, BC, Canada. History Project: www.thesilverbowl.com
