Author: maconnaugh Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.ireland.arm.general/9901.4.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Kathleen: I just finished writing to Mary and your father, Patrick, would be my grandmother's Brother. We have a very large family here in America who has often wondered about the family who remained in Ireland. As you can probably assume, I have been making a lot of phone calls this morning to family members and everyone is really excited. Aunt Katie married John Cosgrove and had 7 children that we know of. She married Pat McDowney (spelled wrong) after her first husband passed away and made trips back to Ireland sometime in the 1950's. My grandmother had one son that she called "Billy" to everyone in the family. Susan and Kate McShane's mother and father were Charles and Jane McCreesh of Drumlougher, so I know we are definitely related. The Australia and England connection I would have never guessed since those who came to America still live very close to one another. I would love to get in contact and as I have posted to Mary, will contact you both via email. I have a copy of your father's World War 1 photo that I am sure your family would love to see. My condolences on your sister's passing. Best Regards, Maria Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: maconnaugh Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.ireland.arm.general/9901.3.2.2.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Yes, I am Susan's granddaughter and my grandmother referred to my father always a her "Billy!" He actually worked for the railroad. Both my grandmother and Uncle Jimmy lived with us. As a small child, I guess you could call them my playmates and they would tell me stories about Ireland to keep me amused. I have been looking for our Irish family for a very long time. After reading Kathleen's reply (and I am going to write her as well), I assume you are Mary? Last year, I began aggressively searching electronically for the McShane's of Drumlougher for a family outing we have every year in December. Thank you for the information on the graveyard (Cullyhanna). I am assuming the gravesite is located at St. Patrick's in Cullyhanna, and if I understood Kathleen's post correctly one of your sister's has passed away, so please accept my condolences. Rather than post, I will contact you and Kathleen on the email addresses you provided but have one question before I go. Did you know Sarah McNulty from Drumlougher and did any of the McNulty's come to America. I can't imagine my grandmother leaving Ireland for America at such a young age with just her sister. It would be really helpful if after the initial e-mail inquiry is made with a subject consisting of a general statement, that all follow up e-mails list the family names being inquired about in the subject line. 3. Hi Jan I have a list of places in Armagh which are not townlands but are mentioned on maps. Such places are known as Townland sub-denominations. Moorevale is not there. There is a Moores Island in the townland of Grange Blundel and a Mountnab in Ballymacawley townland and a Millvale in Mullaghglass townland. Pauline www.irishhomesteads.com
