The family that you've detailed is my husbands GGGrandfather. I will certainly look into this! Thank you sooooooo much! I looked at the original land record, and have not been able to find much on the children except the odd marriage record and a couple of death records. I know that Henry and Margaret were both born in Ireland, and that they are both burried at Quyon. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 3. Hi Pauline, Thank you for checking the burial records for me. It is a shame when burial records are lost or don't exist, I have had the same problem here in Australia. If I can find a death date for them it would answer a few questions re his children. Dorothy > Hi Dorothy > I looked at the burial records for Mullaghbawn Church, the parish church > of > Forkhill. I have only been able to search back as far as a John Morrison. He was born in Armagh County Ireland in about 1821. His father's name was James Morrison. John married Lucinda Reynolds on October 11, 1848 at Aghavilly Church of Ireland in the Parish of Lisnadill. He was living in Lisdrumbrughas, Parish Derrynoose, County Armagh when he was married. John and Lucinda had 2 children in Ireland...Annabelle b. approx 1849 and John b. approx 1952. John, Lucinda and children came to Canada between 1852 and 1857. Lucinda's father's name was Bernard Reynolds. I am looking for any info on them and their families left in Ireland. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 3. Hi Dorothy Burial records and death records are different things. Most Roman Ctaholic Churches did not keep burial records. You can however get a death certificate for anyone who died in the latter years of the nineteenth century. A CIVIL record as opposed to a CHURCH record. I can check out the headstones in Dromintee for you in the next week or so Pauline www.irishhomesteads.com

    3. It has been a while since I wrote to this list, but I have had no luck over the years trying to find my gggrandparents Bernard Hughes and Bridget Smyth Hughes. My ggrandmother was Mary Isabell Hughes born 1856 in County Armagh. I know she had at least one sister Margaret two years older. I had the Armagh Research Center do a search of records there and they did find a Hughes-Smyth couple in Tullyglush Kane, but no Mary or Margaret. I really don't know where else to turn. Any new ideas? I don't know if the rest of the family emigrated when Mary did in 1875, though I have searched the immigration records  at Ancestry. I have also searched the IFHF site with not luck. I know her sister married a John Rice in Armagh (according to death certificate and obituary), but haven't been able to document that. Thanks in advance! Cathy in USA

Author: EileenWilson001 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.ireland.arm.general/10017.3/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Have you searched the parish records in Quebec for clues in the children's baptisms? Often they gave more info about where the family was from in Ireland. Is this the family in the 1851 Canadian Census (actually taken in early 1852; ages given are as of next birthday): Bristol, Ottawa County, Canada East (Quebec) Gilpin, Henry, farmer, b. Ireland, Church of England, aged 37, married Gilpin, Mary, b. Ireland, aged 37, married Gilpin, Elisabeth, b. Bastow, aged 11 Gilpin, Judith, b. Bristol, aged 9 Gilpin, Meriah, b. Bristol, aged 7 Gilpin, Mary A., b. Bristol, aged 5 Gilpin, Wm. H., b. Bristol, aged 2 If so, then they were in Quebec before 1840. Henry was granted land (100 acres) in Bristol on 23 October 1873. A copy of the land grant may also provide more info. There is another Gilpin family in Pontiac in the 1861 census (William, aged 35, b. Ireland with wife Margaret, aged 30). In the Freeholder Records available at the PRONI website, I find a Henry Gilpin in Balteagh, Co. Armagh in 1832 on land rented from Lord Mandeville. He (or someone with the same name) appears in 1817 in Balteagh on land owned by Mr. Sparrow of Tandragee, Co. Armagh. On land rented from the same landlord, I also find (in 1817), a William, John, Robert, Joseph, Dennis and Richard Gilpin. http://www.lurganancestry.com/seagoetithes1834p1.htm http://boards.ancestry.com.au/localities.britisles.ireland.arm.general/9352.4.2.2/mb.ashx Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 3. Good Morning List, I am looking for the deaths and burial sites of my great great grandparents, James Kelly and Ellen McNamee. In 1864 Griffith's Valuation, James was a farmer, living at Parish of Forkhill, Tievecrom, Armagh. In the 1901 census Ellen was living at Tievecrom, Forkhill, Armagh, listed as a widow. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Best wishes Dorothy Victoria, Australia

    3. Hi Dorothy I looked at the burial records for Mullaghbawn Church, the parish church of Forkhill. They are not buried there. I think they may be baptised in Dromintee/Drumintee Churchyard as the children of James and Eleanor (Ellen) including Esther, Bridget, Arthur, Mary Anne, Catherine etc were baptised in Dromintee Chapel So I think its safe to assume they were buried in Dromintee Pauline www.irishhomesteads.com

I am not sure what back material they have on line. No doubt their websites will tell you. Your biggest problem is going to be dating this. Speaking as someone who travelled that railway line on business throughout the period 1975 - 2010, I can tell you there were bombs and suspect devices about twice a week, especially in the period 1970 - 1990. It must have been temporarily closed hundreds of times, for bombs, real and hoax. We were always being bussed around Newry. It was sometimes a surprise when the train ran normally. See: www.proni.gov.uk/index/research_and_records_held/catalogues_guides_indexes_and_leaflets/online_guides_and_indexes.htm However they are not on-line, and there is no index, so to use them effectively, you need to know your ancestors parish/townland and their exact religion. The records are on microfilm. Copies of each churches records can be ordered in to your local LDS library if you are not able to access them in PRONI. There are some parish records in Ireland which go back to the 1600s but many start much later. A lot of early Church of Ireland records which, ironically had been sent to Dublin for safe keeping, were destroyed in an explosion in 1922.
