Hi - yes, there is a wonderful B&B near Proni. This B&B was one of the best and I've stayed in quite a few. Try: http://www.anoldrectory.co.uk/ I took the train to Belfast from Dublin and took a taxi to the B&B. I left my bags there with them (before getting into my room) and walked about 1/2 mile to Proni - an EASY walk. Lunch at the Proni cafeteria. For dinner, you'll have to either walk about 2 miles or call a taxi to find a location as there are not many restaurants close by. It's more of a residential area, but the B&B is on the main street. On my last day, I left my bags with them again while I spent the day at PRONI and then trained back home in the evening (we were living in Dublin). Good luck! I had the same problem recently, so I printed and mailed their paper application with my credit card info written on it, and received the certificate without further problems . . . ----- Original Message ----- From: <kkinplum@aol.com> To: <NIR-ARMAGH@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, August 14, 2011 7:48 PM Subject: [ARMAGH] GRONI > > I tried to order a death certificate from GRONI online. Author: elwynsoutter1 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.ireland.arm.general/10023.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: William's birth was long before the start of statutory birth registration in Ireland (1864) so you won't find a birth certificate for him. You might find a baptism if the records have survived, and you can locate his exact religion and parish or townland. Looking at Griffiths Valuation, there are about 20 May entries for Co Armagh but only one for Co Monaghan (in 1860), so obviously Armagh seems more likely to be his county of origin. www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/index.xml I would try to find William's marriage cert in England. From that you should get his father's name, which I would then search against Griffiths. If you find a possible match then that could form the basis for a search of parish records to lcate his birth and that of any siblings. Irish censuses pre 1901 have been destroyed so you won't be able to find his family through that route. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
