Author: farrugiajk Surnames: Little/Boyd Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.ireland.arm.general/9270/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Could someone please point me in the right direction. I have tracked my family back to a James and Jane Little (nee Boyd) who left Armagh Ireland for Victoria, Australia via Liverpool in 1841 (assisted immigration to Australia). I can trace them well in Australia but don't know where to look in Ireland (via the web) as all my attempts have produced nothing. They were both born about 1800 and had 6 children to them before emigrating. James parents are James and Jane Little and Jane Boyds parents James and Elizabeth Mary Boyd. Not sure of the religion but I do know that James worked as a Labourer. If someone could please direct me to where I can find the information I need I would really appreciate the help. The family migrated to the York Co., Pa. area by mid 1730's. When William died in 1750, his will of 1749 was probated. The Plantation went to one John & the Mill went to James. Neither of them left Pa. Some of their son & other relatives did migrate west. Alot of James's kin went to Illinois, Ohio, Indiana then on west to Plains states and to Califoria. I have over 70 James & John's in my tree.If you can give me some names and dates, I'll try to help you. E-mail me direct. Let me add that I take the 7:30am train from Dublin, arriving Belfast at 9:30. I have the taxi stop at the B&B first and drop of my bags and then take me to the PRONI. The Old Rectory B&B is very happy to hold your bag until you return that evening, even though your room may not be ready. I am usually at PRONI by 10am. Note that at PRONI they are quite restrictive as to what you can take into the research rooms. They do have lockers. You CAN bring your portable computer and power cord. You CAN bring in your papers. They will give you a large, clear plastic bag to carry your papers in. You CANNOT bring in pens, markers or your own bags of any kind. They provide pencils. They have let me bring my manilla folders with my papers. So I put my computer case in my locker and carry my plastic bag and my portable computer. When I extract, I extract directly to the computer using a Word Table. You can make photocopies of the microfilm and the documents. Copies of microfilm are .75 pence each (about $1.50). Copies of documents range from .30 -.90 pence each. (The pound is about double the dollar.) When I want to eat, I put my computer, et al into my locker and walk outside to the next building for the cafeteria. Hope this helps, Julie Julie M. PRONI is located in the middle of Balmoral Road, Belfast. It is open M-F 9am to 4:45pm. Thursdays it stays open late to 8:45pm. There is a simple cafeteria on premises which is sufficient to the task and especially nice because there are NO eating places nearby. Belfast is easily accessible by train or bus. It is a 2-hour train from Dublin (leaving from Connelly Station). The cost is 50 euro round trip or 35 one way. Upon arrival at Central Station, I take a taxi to the B&B (less than 10 pounds). There are also buses, but I'm always too anxious to get to PRONI to take more time. I have been to many B&B's throughout Ireland. There are two Bed and Breakfasts within walking distance of the PRONI in Belfast: 1) The Old Rectory - Mary Rosato at oldrectoryni@freenetname.co.uk 148 Malone Road, Belfast This B&B is on a main road south of the center of Belfast, a little over a mile south of Queens University. Malone Road has bus service back into town. The cost of a taxi from Central Station to the B&B is about 8 pounds. The B&B is about 1.5 miles from the center of town where you would find places for dinner, bank machines, phones, etc. The PRONI is an easy 10 minute walk. I have stayed at The Old Rectory twice. Very, very nice B&B - best I've found in Ireland (and ranks up there with the one in Blarney). Warm, homey atmosphere. The rooms are wonderful and you are treated in style. Her husband is a chef and the food is amazing. I feel a bit pampered here. The cost is a bit higher than other B&B's: 37-46 pounds for a single, but the walking distance makes it worth it. This is a record of their acreage and payments. This was extremely helpful to me. Hi again, Julie, I read with interest about the manors of Ballymore: I am interested in the townland of Corlust and the name HALL and in the townland of Ballysheil/Ballysheilmore and the name HAMILTON. I would appreciate any info you can offer me. Thanks a lot Judy

John Stewart was born in Lurgan in 1868. He became an orphan at the age of seven. I know nothing of his childhood or the casue of his parents' deaths. He emmigrated to Dunbarton, Scotland as a young man. My great grandparents were William James Stewart, hand loom weaver, and Sarah Jane (Wells) Stewart. They had a daughter named Annie Stewart. My grandfather died before I was born and I have a lot of questions concerning my Stewart/Wells ancestry. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. John FOX is recorded on his daughters Scottish birth registration as being born in Armagh Northern Ireland in 1808. Looking at the other birth registrations on the page, they record the city where the parents are born so I can only assume in Johns case, this means Armagh City rather than the county. We dont know exactly which religion John Fox was. He was married in a Roman Catholic church in 1849 in Edinburgh after the birth of his third child. The three children were baptized four days after the marriage. His wife, 18 years his junior was from a Catholic family and was baptised in the same church in Edinburgh. The younger children in the family were baptised in the Catholic church as they came along. Im not sure if there was a former marriage and family involved as the reason for the couple not marrying until the third child arrived speculation only. Id appreciate being pointed in the correct direction, where to start looking for the birth of John FOX in Armagh to be able to find the names of his parents and siblings. Judy, The Manors of Ballymore (1812-1816) record was found in the Ballymore Church of Ireland church records. Ballymore CI Records - viewed at PRONI (Belfast) Microfilm #MIC.IP 583 Part 270-271 I did not make a copy of the entire record but extracted my surnames from each townland. HALL is a fairly common surname in the general area as I recall, but I did not make any extractions for it. My townlands of Clare and Mavemacullen are right next to Ballysheil Beg. This was a great census substitute record. Unfortunately, I don't know of any way to access it except at PRONI. I wish that PRONI was allowed to make these microfilm available in a broader manner. I'm sure there are professional researchers whom you could pay to search these records for you. However, I don't know of them or how to find them. I just happen to be living in Dublin this year on sabbatical and made a trip up to Belfast. I can recommend a wonderful bed and breakfast only a 10 minute walk from PRONI. Found a Stephen McCann on the 1855-1915 Census residing in Gardner or Gordon Kansas, County of Johnson, USA . Also in 1865 on a deed for selling land, He was born about 1825. Any information on him would be appreciated. Ann T. Meyer
Julie, I have an Anna Bella Kelly in my records too. She was one of four sisters: Jane Kelly, Mary Kelly, and Rebecca Kelly were the other three. Jane Kelly was b. about 1800 and she married David Jeffrey October 29, 1831. Mary Kelly, also b. about 1800, married James McHenry April 23, 1839. Ana Bella Kelly whose nickname was Isabella was b. about 1800 and she marred John Caughey on January 17, 1828. John Caughey was born about 1800 in Ballyshiel, Co. Armagh. Rebecca Kelly b. about 1814, married Samuel Hart (b. about 1815) on March 15, 1840. Every one of these four sisters married in the Clare Presbyterian Church in Co. Armagh, so I suppose that must have been their family church. The four sisters' father was James Kelly who died between October 28, 1831, and April 23, 1839, as he was present for some of his daughter's weddings but not for others. I got all this information from a website for the Kelly family - I am sorry, but at this moment I cannot recall the exact website. I do not know James Kelly's wife's name. She would be the mother of these four sisters. Samuel and Rebecca are my ancestors. They are my grandfather's grandparents/ Shortly after their wedding, they emigrated to Canada and I have much data from that point to now. I'm afraid it sounds like your Anna Bella Kelly is not the same as my Anna Bella Kelly described above. Too bad. Karen Hart Anthony ----- Original Message ----- From: "Julie M.
