    1. [ARMAGH] Ballentine's in Armagh
    2. Ballentine, Michael
    3. It's been some time since I researched my line (BALLENTINE). The reason I stopped about 2 years ago is because I hit a brick wall when it comes to Armagh. Are there any Ballentine's on this list that I can get in contact with? Or should I just post my specifics on this line again?

    1. Re: [ARMAGH] Reposting interests ELLIOT, COWBRAY
    2. Joan
    3. Hello Listers Just thought I'd re-post my interests in the hope new listers may be researching same. Mary Ann Elliot born about 1846, Armagh, Cty. Armagh parents Richard ELLIOT [farmer] & Mary COWBRAY, CARBURY with various spellings. I have found a birth in 1846 of a Mary Ann Elliot on Armagh Ancestry but have not followed this up as yet. Would there be church records as well? I have a immigration record of a Mary Ann Elliot who arrived in Victoria, Australia in 1870 on the ship "Percy" which sailed from Plymouth. This Mary Ann was a housemaid, R/C and was engaged by Geo. M. Bradshaw of St. Kilda, Victoria, Australia. However I have not been able to prove she is my great grandmother Mary Ann Elliot. Thank you for any help. Joan in NSW, Australia

The other names I have are Thomas, Catherine, John, Patrick, Brenard, James, Hugh, Rose, Francis/Frank, Elizabeth/Eliza. Although I am not sure when she came out to NZ, I strongly suspect that that Mary was still in Ireland in 1869 as none of them had some out at that point. I have not yet been able to locate the graves of their parents or James yet as it is proving to almost impossible to get info from the RC church records without costing me huge money which I don't have. Lets keep it in mind as there is probably some connection and I have located none of their father's family. Patrick was possibly born around 1829ish. They were definitely all Catholics. Margaret Heaney's address is listed as MONEYSHARVIN ( we don't know where that is but is probably close to Upperlands) The ceremony was performed by Father P. Bradley and the witnesses were James Brennan and MARY Heaney. Our guess is that James Brennan was brother to Francis and Mary Heaney was sister to Margaret. The records for the family are now held at Glen Church in Maghera. The family parish is St. John the Baptist in Granaghan and all burials are there. 1. [ARMAGH] Robinson family
    2. I am researching a Robinson family who is believed to have immigrated to Canada on the ship Brigham in 1829. This is what I know and I would appreciate any additional suggestions or information: Samuel Robinson was born in 1785 in Glasslough, Monaghan, Ireland. He lived in Armagh, Ireland when his daughter, Nancy, was born in 1814. In 1829, he and his brother James Robinson came to the Dublin Range in Megantic County near Inverness, Quebec, Canada. I know that Samuel's daughter Nancy emigrated to Canada from Ireland in 1829 and went to Inverness. It is likely that she came with her father and other siblings: William, Thomas, James, Hannah, and possibly Mary Ann. Nancy and her husband William Gillis were married at Samuel Robinson's home. There is a Samuel Robinson buried in Boutelles Cemetery in Inverness, Megantic County, Quebec, Canada, where Nancy and her husband are buried. He died 6/14/1874, and is buried with his wife Ellen McCammon Robinson who died 20 Apr 1852, at age 70. Nancy was born in 1814 or 1815, which would make this Samuel 40 or 41 and Ellen about 32 when Nancy was born. It is believed that this Samuel and Ellen are Nancy's parents. Ellen McCammon was born about 1782 in County Tyrone, Ireland. It appears she married Samuel Robinson while still in Ireland.

Three of their 11 children, namely James, Francis and Eliza were born at Anahorish, Toomebridge, Co. Antrim and were baptized in St. Trea's R.C. Chapel, Newbridge, Magherafelt, Co. Derry, N. IRL, over the period 1858 to 1867. I haven't located a Margaret in the family yet but it's possible. Of the 11 so far, only one stayed in Ireland the rest emigrated to New Zealand. I have nomination letters indicating their addresses were Anahorish in the 1870's. It is possible that there is a connection between the two as I know the family name was Heaney but it was changed to Heeney in NZ. I am currently struggling to connect with any of the family that remained in back in Ireland. Looking at a map Anahorish doesn't seem to far distant from the Upperlands area. 3. Hi, Have you looked at the shipping record? That should show what County in Ireland she came from. Her death certificate should show how many years she lived in Australia and possibly where she was born & names of parents. Marriage certifiate should also show place of birth, usually county but occasionally town as well. By cross checking these its possible to decide if this is your relation. Certificates for Victoria are $17.50 each and can be downloaded online. Just google BDM from Australia and the government website comes up. I checked the LDS website to see what parish records for Armagh exist and found the following Parochial registers of Shankill, 1822-1881 Catholic Church. Parish of Shankill ( Armagh). Baptisms, 1822-1865 from Lurgan; baptisms, marriages and deaths, 1866-1881 from Shankill. FHL BRITISH Film 926089 Other church records can be found using keyword search - "church records Armagh" Films can be hired at LDS centres and cost about $5 per film which you need to view at one of their centres. Addresses and opening hours on their webpage. http://www.lds.org/portal/site/LDSOrg Richard Elliott was on Griffiths Valuation at Tannaghmore South townland in Shankill parish, County Armagh.
