    3. Hi Anne in Cairns and everyone that's interested! Maybe I've just had a breakthrough as I've just found the following entries in the 1830 Tithe Applotments: Gould James Tullyhugh Gould Thomas Tullyhugh http://www.connorsgenealogy.net/Armagh/BallymoreTithesF-I.htm Maybe this is the James Gould the father of my Mary Jane Gould and Thomas Gould could be the ancestor of Anne in Carins QLD ?. Can anyone tell us about the Townland of Tullyhugh and what town it is near? Anne it could possibly be that we are descendants of the same Gould's! 3. Peter, Have you got certified copies of all her children's birth certificates? Sometimes, on one or more of the children's birth certificates, the full place of birth of a parent (Anne Jane Gould) can be given. I have the same problem with my ancestor, Robert and his brother, John ROBERTS, both are listed as being born in Armagh, Ireland. Fortunately Robert married in Lurgan, Armagh in 1854 so it gives me a place to start. You should also check her death certificate if you don't already have that. If she lived through until the introduction of the Aged Pension, there may be some record there of her birth place. Good luck with your research. I know how frustrating it can sometimes be. 3. Hi Anne There would seem that there were many schemes to bring poor young women of the British Isles to New South Wales around 1830/40s'. I noticed one in particular the 1830's run by the London Emigration Committee which seems to have brought thousands of young women to NSW: "..The British Government's system for assisted female emigration to New South Wales was instituted in September 1831 by Lord Goderich, and was soon extended to mechanics. Between 1832 and 1836 sixteen entire shiploads of emigrants, most of them women, were dispatched from English and Irish ports, and in addition several hundreds of young women went out under the scheme in vessels other than those chartered by the London Emigration Committee..." http://www.electricscotland.com/history/australia/scotaus3.htm As far as I can see my Anne Jane Gould was not amongst these. 3. How about a variation in spelling. Goold? My Kenny family Were Kenny on the shipping into Melbourne, could read and write and actually changed the spelling on the ships list from Canny but in County Clare they are Canny/Carney. Also one name I came across was spelt 5 different ways on 1 page of church baptisms and it was the same family.
