Author: RonaldDale100 Surnames: McShane Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.ireland.arm.general/4127.1.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello Jean, There were several McShanes who received pensions for their service. Those from Armagh were: Patrick McShane, b ca 1833, from Loughall who had been in the 51st Regiment of Foot in 1853-54 and was obviously wounded and invalided. Owen McShane, b. ca 1812, from Drumcree who was in the 67th Regt from 1831-52 Bernard McShane b. ca 1830 Drumcree who had been in the 82nd Regiment from 1846-1852 (and again likely wounded or injured on duty) These records from the Public Record Office only list those who received pensions. A wounded soldier who was declared an invalid or a soldier who had served for 12 years was entitled to a pension from the Royal Pensioners Hospital in Chelsea or Kilmarnain. Only soldiers with good conduct records qualified and the pension was 1 to 2 pennies per day depending on the amount of service. What indication do you have that your ancestor was in the 11th foot? If it is fairly strong, then you could consider accessing the pay records for the 11th regiment. Let me know. Ron Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I have been unable to trace either the marriage of William Bullock Graham and Rose Ann Edgar or birth records of their children. I have William Waddell Graham death certificate; their son, my GGG GF; which states them as his parents. This is the only hard documented link I have to them. I would love any information or documentation you have. I have extensive info on William and Rose's son John from Janet. I have also found problems with the IGI link to James Graham, the dates do not tie in. Regards, Karen Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I've seen the pedigree charts on the IGI tracing this line back to James Graham, 1st Duke of Montrose but I think it is in error as the link is his son, George who died unmarried and no mention is made of any children. Also, the children attributed to George Graham have no source documentation. If anyone has this documentation, I would be very interested in seeing it. So far, I've only been able to get documentation back to William Bullock Graham and have not been able to find his father or mother.
