    1. [ARMAGH] Loughgall Parish - John Cooke
    2. James Gambrel
    3. In the list of people in Loughgall Parish (1797?) there is listed one John Cooke. He is also listed on the Flax-growers list. Is it possible to find out more about his family? There was a William John Cooke born in 1802(?) in Armagh. I am wondering if this John Cooke could have been his father. Would church records have the name of the mother? William John married c 1830 to Alice Morton of Fermanagh, had children Frederick born 1832, John born 1834, William born 1836, and Mary born c 1839. They moved to Upper Canada (Ontario) between 1836 and 1840. There is a conflict in some data from the family. William born 1836 always said he was born on the boat coming over. On the other info, Mary (born 1839) always said she was born in Armagh, and on her gravestone it says "born in Armagh". Now, we don't know if the date is wrong for Mary's birth, and she assumed she was born in Armagh, or if William John just liked the adventurous idea of having been born on the boat coming over. Did people move around a lot at that time? One person in the family said they came from County Claire. I guess they could have moved there from Armagh? Would the oldest son inherit the property from the father? Perhaps William John born 1802 had an older brother? Would this have been a reason for him to move to Aounty Claire? And then having a tough time, moved to Upper Canada where things were supposed to be 'much better'? I would appreciate any input - suggestions or addresses, etc. Thank you Muriel Gambrel Canada
