Author: RonaldDale100 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.ireland.arm.general/4127.1.1.7.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi Al, You would be better off having a look yourself at your nearest LDS Family History Centre. Check their catalogue on line and find the microfilm corresponding to the PRO record group number. You could have some one do it but they might ding you a fair bit for not much work. The records from the a soldier's first and subsequent regiments were passed on to the most recent regiment and finally to the Chelsea Hospital. The records are organized by the final regiment before discharge and are alphabetical within each volume. Let me know how you make out. I have found microfilm listed at the LDS site, available at the local Family History Centers. As I live in Texas, about four miles from one, this will be my best bet, I think. One question, as the Royal Veterans was his last discharge, all his pertinent documents would be found here, on WO 97/1137 records? Or would some information be found with the 14th Dragoons? Or, would I be better off finding a researcher experienced in military reocrds to do this directly at the PRO? Again, thanks, Al, Allen, Texas Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: RonaldDale100 Surnames: Phillips Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.ireland.arm.general/4127.1.1.6.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello Ron, Any information that there is on Foster Phillips can be found in his file in the Pension Records--the reference number that you have from the PRO--WO97/329/152, which are the Chelsea Pensioner records for the 11th foot. If you order those records you should get his attestation papers, record of service, promotions and demotions, foreign service, physical description and (sometimes) when and where married. It will run about 8 pages or less. The index to the records indicate that he was born ca 1785 in Ematris Parish, Monaghan, that he joined the 11thFoot in 1807 and was discharged when the regiment was reduced in 1824. His pension was likely a penny per day--more if he had been wounded or had been an NCO on discharge. By the way, the General Service Medal was created in 1848 for vets of the Napoleonic Wars and issued in 1849. It was not issued posthumously and therefore we can assume that Foster was alive still in 1849. These medals were stamped with the soldier's name and regiment along the edge. There is a good chance that it is still out there somewhere. They sell for between $1000-$2500 depending on the regiment, the person and the bars. Author: RonaldDale100 Surnames: Emerton Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.ireland.arm.general/4127.1.1.6.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello Hazel, The pay lists for the 11th Rgiment, later the 1st Battalion the Devonshire Regiment, can be found at the PRO in Kew and may give you information on the movements of your Emertons. The 11th was in New South Wales (Oz) from 1845 to 1857 when they returned to England. They remained in England until 1864 when they were shipped to India. It looks like Richard was left with the Duke of York school when the regiment shipped out. Joseph sr would have been in England when both sons were enrolled but would have sailed for India when Richard was enrolled unless Joseph Sr was able to stay with the depot. Regiments on foreign service would keep a small depot in the British Isles from which recruiting parties sallied to entice more young men to join the regiment. He was discharged in 1814 at the age of 38. Since he received a pension his records including service record, attestation papers and (sometimes) record of punishments, and (on occasion) information on wife and children, postings and place of discharge can be found at the PRO in Kew, WO 97/1137. There were a few John Campbells discharged from the 11th RV so you need to be careful that you get the right one. Four companies of the 11th RV were discharged in August 1814 at Hythe and three companies discharged later in 1814 at Chelsea. Sometimes these records will indicate where the soldier plans to reside following discharge. Good luck and let me know how you make out. 1. [ARMAGH] Northern Ireland parish map
    2. Murray Lynn
    3. Over the last few months I have been developing a map showing the parishes in Northern Ireland as well as a few of the many thousands of Townlands (in Tyrone, Antrim and Derry). I started doing this in frustration while researching my own family, trying to locate the actual parish positions on a map. I showed the map to a few others and was overwhelmed by the interest in it and so decided to work though all of Northern Ireland. I have just uploaded the parish maps for Armagh. The map now shows all parishes in the west of Antrim, Armagh, Derry, Fermanagh and Tyrone. So far I have only included one parish in Down and about 25% of Antrim, but I hope to complete these two over the next month. I plan to move the page to a different address and so please don't bookmark it. Instead bookmark my front page which links directly to the map - KiwiCelts <http://kiwicelts.com> I have been contacted by one person who gets an error message saying 'your browser does not support Google Maps'. If you see this message it is due to you having an old (or an exotic) browser. The program supports . IE 6.0+ . Firefox 0.8+ . Safari 1.2.4+ . Netscape 7.1+ . Mozilla 1.4+ . Opera 8.02+ My apologies if you get this message, but it is outside of my control and you will need to upgrade to a new or later version browser to see the maps (in fact any Google Map). -- Kind Regards Murray Lynn Christchurch New Zealand Visit us at KiwiCelts.com <http://kiwicelts.com>

I want more information and where/how to get it. Who I feel sure is my ancestor (John Campbell) served in both the 14th Dragoons, and then a bit later in the 11th Royal Veterans, this in the early 1800s, and was pensioned. What I really need to find out, is any information on where he was when he was pensioned and when he died, wife's name and any children's name would be a large help also.
