    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: NancyDiem Surnames: Downie, McGeachan Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.ireland.arm.general/4127.1.1.7.2.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Thank you, you dear man, for responding so quickly. I'm assuming that the first Robert Downie is from Blaris in County Down. Not sure what to make of the second listing, as there's so little information. Was he discharged in 1820? You may very well be right that the third man is a relative...at least I can begin looking for Downies in the Lochgaul area. Small clues, for sure, but something to investigate. Thanks again. Residence or place where pension paid stated in document. 1820. As I mentioned in a previous post, these are just the pension records for a small percentage of those who served. For example, your Robert could have been a brother of the following George who did receive a pension: WO 97/511/44 GEORGE DOWNIE Born LOCHGAUL, Armagh Served in 33rd Foot Regiment 1820-48. 1. [ARMAGH] Parish maps
    2. Murray Lynn
    3. The parish maps for Antrim are now complete - just Down to go! Some areas around Belfast now have high resolution imagery and it is interesting to see the actual hedgerows etc which form the boundaries. The accuracy of the parish outlines on the map is probably + / - 100M (the width of the outlines on the original maps I am using is probably about 50M alone) and so was I was amazed to see boundaries were right on top of hedgerows in places. -- Kind Regards Murray Lynn Christchurch New Zealand Visit us at KiwiCelts.com <http://kiwicelts.com>

    1. [ARMAGH] Information on Griffiths Valuation (very handy)
    2. Claire McConville
    3. Hi All, Someone just posted this link on the Fermanagh list and I thought it might be helpful for others. It's here http://www.leitrim-roscommon.com/GRIFFITH/more_to_griffiths.html and links to a page with a wealth of information on all aspects of the Griffiths Valuation from the history to exactly what it all means. Explains everything in great detail, so even novices like me can understand. The site is based around Leitrim but don't let that put you off as it will be the same for all over Ireland If you like it, pass it on. Claire McConville www.claires-rosleaancestry.co.uk
