Author: jaggenes Surnames: Quinn Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.ireland.arm.general/9772/mb.ashx Message Board Post: My g-g-g-uncle Neil Quinn was a Ribbonman who was convicted, along with Brian Grant and Patrick Coomey, of the murder of Thomas Bateson on 4th December 1851 at Killygola in Co Monaghan. The three men were publicly executed outside Monaghan Gaol on the date given above. Neil was an uncle of my g-g'father whose name was also Neil Quinn(1843-1932). It is believed that he was about 25-y-o when he died. It is known that he was married, as his wife was reported to have visited him prior to his execution, but I don't know whether or not he had children. One of my maternal great-grandmothers was Anne Callaghan (1839-1931) who was married to Neil Quinn (1843-1932) of Anamar, nr Crossmaglen. They are buried in Crossmaglen. I now nothing about her family background but am aware that Clohogue is near Anamar. I am interested in exploring the possibility of a family link with this Callaghan family. Author: rconard190 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.ireland.arm.general/9541.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I think the John and James Taylor in Griffiths are witnesses at a marriage of Mary Ann Page (Pegg maybe) and Robert McCleary in 1871. Apparently there is a strong connection to the married couple. It could be through Warren or Mawhinney families, though our John Warren was thought to be a postman in Lurgan. I can't put it together yet and wonder if you got farther. Donaghcloney is considered to be a part of Co.Down at least before Craigavon was formed. However, many folks just over the border in CO. Down used Co. Armagh markets to the point they considered themselves from Armagh. There was a William Taylor, father of John b. 1835. John married Sarah Matthews probably in 1860. This is probably John in Griffiths and WIlliam might be the father. The Henry would be your Henry. James would be married, born before 1845, and still in the area in 1871, but I can't find anything on who he was. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: pclarkson168 Surnames: DOUGAN, BUCHANAN Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.ireland.arm.general/9767/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I'm looking for information on DOUGAN ancestors who came from County Armagh, possibly Creggan, to the U.S. in the early 1800s, possibly in the 1820s. Arthur Dougan and Sarah/ Sally Buchanan had 5 children, all born in Ireland between 1797 and 1817: John, Samuel, Nancy, Matthew, and William. The family settled in northern New York State and the oldest son, John, moved to Wisconsin. Family legend says that the family was Presbyterian; another legend says they were Scots-Irish. Does anyone have advice about where I could find more information about this family in Ireland, such as birth and marriage records, etc.? 1. [ARMAGH] Looking for a newspaper that might carry a query
    2. Jan
    3. I have not had any luck at all tracing the townland where my James Hughes emigrated from in the 1830's. I have information on his family in Stockport where James settled and raised a family. Since he named his oldest son Joseph I am hypothesizing that might have been the name of his father. I am looking in the Tynan parish area, possibly Middletown. My question: Is there a newspaper in that area that might carry a query? I would like to see if there is anyone still in n Armagh who is a descendant of my family. I realize this is "tilting at windmills," but nothing else has worked so I would like to give it a try. Any suggestions appreciated. Jan
