My G-Grandfather, John (William) was born ca 1825, emigrated to America in 1840. Married in Wisconsin, USA in 1858. Since this is my maternal line, I have tested my mt-DNA, but so far have not found any connections. Haven't been able to get any of my male HAMILTON cousins to get tested. 1. [ARMAGH] O'Hare, Patrick > US
    2. marsha moses
    3. Well....yes and no. is my answer. The family folklore for my Mary Ann Hare/O'Hare is that after the death of her parents she took a ship to NY accompanied by her aunt ---and her brother got the 40 acres in Ireland. I have looked and looked for documentation for this fact over the years. I have never found a ship entry that really fits with the family folklore: My most likely find so far on ships that transported Mary Ann to NY is the Marathon which left from the port of Liverpool and arrived in NY 20 Nov 1850. The master of the ship was Tyler. I was able to view the actual film of the handwritten manifest in the National Archives. THere was very little information provided: Hare Patt 26 M Unknown Occupation Mary 17 F Unknown Occupation Although this does not fit with James McGregor’s information above, this seems to be the most likely entry that works for Mary Ann Hare’s age. If this is the case, she came with her broher rather than her Aunt--unless her aunt was another passenger with a different name form Hare. So there is the possibility that my Mary Ann had a brother named Patrick/Patt.....who was a bit older than she. And that her Aunt was an aunt on her mother's side and had a different last name. And that this is MY Mary Ann. But there is also the possibility that all of my thoughts are pipe dreams, huh? So let's share our family folklore and see if we can find ANYTHING else that might be a clue...unless the age of Patt in 1850 is way off from your Patrick. 2. I have been following the thread on the Hare/O'Hare families. So, I thought I'd ask about my O'Hare brickwall. Perhaps someone will have a connection. Patrick O'Hare came to New York, USA before 1866 from Armagh (so says family lore). I have not found his entry. He married, in 1866, Mary Taggart in New York City and had 8 children according to the Census. His daughter Mary Ann O'Hare, b 1871, NYC, married William Joseph McCarthy in New York City in 1892. William's father was Patrick McCarthy, said to be from County Clare. Does any of this information fit with the O'Hare families mentioned? Thanks, Barbara McC
