Hi there Do you realise that Dover NH was home to many many immigrants from Keady, Co. Armagh. Its where Tommy Makem, the Derrynoose born singer lived. A documentary about him showed all the old headstones of Keady folk, some of who left Keady in the early nineteenth century Pauline www.irishhomesteads.com On Sat, Jan 30, 2010 at 8:25 PM, [email protected] < [email protected]> wrote: > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Author: kathyintupelo > Surnames: > Classification: queries > > Message Board URL: > > > http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.ireland.arm.general/880.876.318.1798.1.2.3.1.1/mb.ashx > > Message Board Post: > > I don't think we have a connection. He had 8 siblings born from 1834 to 1857. His parents were Mary Mara and James Kennedy. He emigrated about 1873 and was working on the railroad in Sparta, Wisconsin when he married Mary Isabell Hughes in 1877. I can't trace how either of them got to the USA or why. One of Mary's sisters, Margaret Hughes Rice later arrived and lived nearby. All I know is Mary's father was Bernard and her mother was known as Bridget, but possibly also named Mary Smyth. I however don't have any info on a Nathaniel. It's possible he may show up (or his son) in the 1901 census which goes online in a couple of months. I will keep you in mind as I work on the Humphries :) Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Isabelle who claimed to be born in 1852 may be their Isabelle baptized in 1845. Other children of James and ELiza included Ellen Jane, Hannah, and Samuel. Ellen Jane probably did not marry and died in 1876. Samuel is probably the postman who married Elizabeth Pollock of Ballydougan. She had parents James Albert Pollock and Ann Jane Dynes. Samuel's first child is James Albert Porter who emigrated to NY and lived with a Dynes there temporarily. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. He married in early 1858 at Drumbanagher where his new wife's family seem to have been parishners. They came to Australia in 1858 to Melbourne on the 'Tornado'. In approx 1861 an Alexander Porter also came to Australia on the 'Tornado'. He was apparently born in 1842 and then an Isabella PORTER came out here also on the 'Tornado' in approx 1862 - she was born in 1846. This does suggest they were siblings to come on the same boat and to the same city as Charles, however neither Alexander or Isabella are ever mentioned again - perhaps it was just a holiday?. Charles says on certificates that his father was James PORTER a farmer. He says his mother was Roseanne PORTER. Probably a different PORTER family but thought it was worth mentioning?? regards Margaret Brookes. Melbourne. There never appeared to be any others in our PORTER family in Melbourne - perhaps they migrated somewhere else? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I have added a couple of hundred more names to my family tree in the last month. Some of them are the ancestors of Margaret JACKSON née IRWIN. SEE: http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=silverbowl Secondly, I have posted a new page that I would love to have some input on. It concerns Margaret JACKSON née IRWIN who is the recently deceased of the will abstract that I have been researching. I know that there are many people on this list who know considerably more about the history of Monaghan than I do and I do look forward to being corrected if I have made errors. (If I haven't - I then look forward to utter astonishment and cheering! :) ) For now, I am still exploring where her deceased husband, Richard JACKSON, (or his family before him) came from before he was a resident of Monaghan. He was a successful leather merchant and leading donor in the community. I am suspecting connections to Drogheda, but need to follow that up. The recently posted will abstract and related research can be found at: http://www.thesilverbowl.com/documents/1834Jul2-MargaretJACKSON.html NAMES mentioned include: Margaret JACKSON of Monaghan née IRWIN; James JACKSON; James ALEXANDER; George BARTLEY; James HATCHETT; E.M. MORPHY; Richard JACKSON of Monaghan. Margaret came from SWANZY and SEAVER ancestry - which would tie her in to Co. Armagh.
