    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: HMcGinn1259 Surnames: McGinn Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.ireland.arm.general/4758.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: We communicated several years ago about our Armagh McGinns and I'm following up to see it there are any more common threads. My gggrandfather James McGinn (b abt 1806) and wife Sarah (b abt 1815) were in NY State in 1855 with children Edward (b 1830) Bernard (b 1839) Margaret (b abt 1844 ) James (b abt 1846) Anne and Mary (both b aft 1830) and John (b abt 1840). Their connection with Armagh is on Bernard's tombstone in Kingston NY which says he was "a man of Toriras Carnally County Armagh". Carnally is a townland in Creggan Parish east of Cross Maglen. I've not found any information on Toriras but asume it was an estate in Carnally. I drove around Carnally in 2002. I stopped in the cemetery at Creggan Church and at St Patrick's Church closer to Cross Maglen. It was Good Friday so I did not bother the priest on that busy day. I recently came across a website with some census data which did not show any McGinns in Carnally until fairly recently. I see from my old research notes that you had the date of John Henry and Margaret McGinn's marriage in 1858 as of at least 1997. I have seen sevral references to a Hugh McGinn in various emails and web postings over the years. Have you developed any further information over tha past 10 or 13 years which might be of assistance to me? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 2. Alison Kilpatrick
    3. Hi. Does anyone know whether that valuable townland database web site, www.seanruad.com, is offline permanently? I've not been able to access it for a while. If I recall correctly, the fellow who maintained seanruad.com also maintained www.leitrim-roscommon.com. Alison

I would suggest that the Askin name came from the Askin family who lived in Lurgantarry townland about 5 miles north east of Corbracky and Drumalis. David Askin lived here in 1833. Lurgantarry is just over the county border in County Down. There were/are Askins in Armagh but not as close to Corbracky as David Askin Pauline www.irishhomesteads.com Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
