Author: debmonarch Surnames: Maxwell, Barnes, andrews Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.ireland.arm.general/9797/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I found the burial record of a Jane Maxwell wife of Samuel Barnes who died at Grosse Ilse, Quebec 12 june 1847. The record states that she is "of the parish of Derrynoose, County of Armagh" She was about 30 years old One of my ancestors is a Eliza Maxwell of Armagh the wife of Thomas Andrews. I don't know if these ladies are related but they both immigrated to Canada in the same year from the same county of Ireland but seeing it happened in the middle of the Starvation and so many were leaving Ireland Iam unsure. All I know about my Eliza was that she was born abt 1816 but i don't know where in Armagh. Is anyone researching Maxwells for Derrynoose? Author: K_Lindemer Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.ireland.arm.general/9781.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: My grandfather Peter was married to Rose Ina Brady! She was born in 1893 in Dundee, Scotland. My mother has 2 sisters Violet and Rose. My mother was 1 year old when she came to the U.S. with her mother and sister Rose. Her other sister was born in the U.S. My mother is 87 and was born in Ashington, England. Molly may remember the older sister Rose. From what I understand my grandfather came to the U.S. because he couldn't make a living in Great Britain. He left his family at home until he job settled and had enough money for them to join him. I am wondering why you are interested in Daniel O'Hare. Where have you found his name? My mother did mention her family talking about O'Hare's. I think that my grandfather Peter served in World War I and that would have been in Scotland or England. May have been connected to Black Watch. I have always wondered why Peter listed his parents as having been born in Free Ireland. They appear to have been married in Northern Ireland. I am thinking Free Ireland means Southern Ireland. I am so glad to have connected with you. I hit a dead end here partly because of not being familiar with searching for people in Europe. Would you like to email me privately? I have copies of his and his brothers, james, peter and owen birth certificates. They were all born in scotland. I also have James death certificate. I can't forward these to you as in dont know how to but i can give you all the information that is on them if you like? I also have an online copy of Sarah and Owen's marriage certificate. They were married 1 June 1882 in a roman catholic chapel of middletown, again i can give you all thine info thats on this if you like?. Owens father has been listed as patrick Hughes. I am unable to go any further back now as i am finding it impossible to find any info prior to to Sarah and Owens marriage. I have tried searching for info on daniel o'hare too but i have had no luck. On Sarah and Owens marriage certificate one of the witnesses was a mary o'hare, this may be a possible sister to Sarah but i am unable to confirm this yet. Did your grandfather marry a woman called Rosie or Rosina? They are witnesses on hos brother patricks marriage certificate. Do you know if your mother had ever met or wrote to her cousins over here in England? She has one cousin from my line of the family that is still alive too. She is probably about the same age as your mother. she is called Molly. Thanks Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: K_Lindemer Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.ireland.arm.general/9781.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: My grandfather is Peter J. Hughes. He was born in Edinburgh, Scotland in the Parish if Kirknewton and East Calder. on June 21, 1891. His father was Owen Hughes who married Sarah O'Hare. I have this information from his death certificate. I have what I believe is his birth certificate which lists his father as Owen who was a shale miner and his mother as Sarah O'Hare. I sent for this birth certificate from Scotland when I saw Peter Hughes Born in 1891 in Kirknewton and East Calder. I am assuming that since I have proof of his birth year and parents name, and birth place, this is my grandfather. (I have been told that Hughes is a very common name.) I believe that Owen and Sarah were married June 1882. The birth certificate has 1882 for date of marriage and location Middleton??, Annagh, Ireland. My grandfather Peter Hughes came to the U.S. in 1923 through Ellis Island, New York. On ship log he lists his mother and father as being born in Ireland Free State. When Pet! er Hughes came to the U.S. he worked in coal mines in Scranton, PA. He also spoke Scotch. I believe that Daniel O'Hare was his sponsor in U.S. I have Owen's father listed as Peter Hughes and his wife as Mary Feeney. I have a ? next to her name and I have no idea where I got Peter as Owen's father. I am curious about Daniel O'Hare and his relationship to Sarah. Perhaps a brother? I would be happy to mail you copies of the documents that I have. I remember my grandfather Peter Hughes. He spoke Gaelic. His daughter -my mother is still alive. She is 87. Next week I will ask her about his possible brothers Patrick, Owen, and James. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
