Chris Try it again. Get the imagery up that shows the red boundary lines. Ballymacrandal is about 2 miles due east of PORTADOWN. I can get it up very clearly on this site. The name Ballymacrandal is written in the centre of the townland clearly. It even shows a property known as Mountain View in Ballymacrandal. Play around with the site, you want the image with the red boundaries Pauline www.irishhomesteads.com On Fri, Mar 5, 2010 at 1:29 PM, Chris Shearer Cooper <[email protected]> wrote: > I looked up Ballymacrandal in the Griffith's Valuation portion of > askaboutireland.ie, and it brought up a map, but it's kind of strange > because nothing on the map (that I can find) actually says Ballymacrandal. > Is this to be expected? > > > > Thanks, > > Chris > > > > > > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the > quotes in the subject and the body of the message >

Now I m wondering if this was communal living, or if families shared apartments or sections of the house. No wonder my 17 or18 year old William seduced the 20 year old Harriet. Or was it the other way round. I look forward to your paper. Someday the mystery will be solved. I m not as impatient as I used to be to find out. No - it was intergenerational, but one family (with frequent visitors). And the house wasn't large by today's standards - the photo is misleading because of how much space was really part of a working farm, not living quarters. No, it wasn't row housing. I have other pictures of Urker. It was a single family home with farm related buildings attached in a courtyard arrangement (not uncommon). I looked up Ballymacrandal in the Griffith's Valuation portion of askaboutireland.ie, and it brought up a map, but it's kind of strange because nothing on the map (that I can find) actually says Ballymacrandal. Is this to be expected? Thanks, Chris

Chris Look up *askaboutireland.ie* then go to the section on Griffiths Vaulation and in the 'place' section type in Ballymacrandal and you will see a map of the 1860's of that townland. It is close to Portadown in north west Armagh Pauline www.irishhomesteads.com On Thu, Mar 4, 2010 at 5:34 PM, Chris Shearer Cooper <[email protected]> wrote: > My Hollingsworth ancestors came from Ballymacrandal, Seagoe Parish, County > Armagh, but I'm not finding any maps that show where this is (or was). My family, Donaldsons and Wallaces, lived at Cloghog Lodge, Crossmaglen, in the early 1800s. A Wallace girl married a Donaldson boy and came to Canada in 1839 and 6 generations later I am learning about their lives. But I don't understand what a Lodge was, and couldn''t find it when I visited there in 2008. Were they in some kind of Inn? Were there several houses? Did several families just live together? Can any tell me what is was and if it possibly still exists? I was told that it did, but was unoccupied. -- Beverley Clarkson Sambro Head, Nova Scotia

My Hollingsworth ancestors came from Ballymacrandal, Seagoe Parish, County Armagh, but I'm not finding any maps that show where this is (or was). Any ideas? Thanks, Chris
I am looking for more information on Thomas Jacobs, my great(many)-grandfather. I had received information years ago saying he was born in 1679 in County Cork, but now it seems like everyone on the Internet is saying 1684 in County Armagh, but I can't find anyone who is providing source information for that fact (not that my source information for the original date/place is all that great). Does anyone know where information on Thomas would have come from? Thanks! Chris

I have that they were married in Loughall, Ireland in 1854... came to the US in 1854... but, also her death is recorded as 1854. Maybe I just have too many notes and confused something. In the past month, I have written and posted a number of new pieces on my web site. The focus in these pieces has been on people connected to Counties Armagh and Louth - but these families also had connections to Counties Monaghan and Antrim. The easiest way to access the pieces for many people is to start with my What's New link at: http://www.thesilverbowl.com/misc/whatsnew.htm The new pages are (from most recently posted): John Charles COULTER (Nov 1840 - bet. 1914-1917) - the mystery surrounding his death and an exploration of his possible family connection to the COULTERs of Carrickastuck. The knowledge of the story is thanks to a series of emails in 2009 from Lainey (Elaine) Machovsky. 1911 Census of Killynure and notes NAMES: COUSER, STOOPS, CARROLL, FINEGAN, CAROLAN, BROWN, MONTGOMERY, SMYTH, MACKLE, FEGAN. Andrew Bradford OLIVER(1818-1877) This is a complete rewriting of this biography with new photos and information. JACKSONs of Creggan and Drogheda There is mounting evidence that there may be a connection between the JACKSONs of Creggan and the JACKSONs of late 1600s and early 1700s Drogheda. In time, this may or may not be proven. It will depend on not only the truth of whether or not there is a connection, but also whether there are enough available records to make the case compellingly. This page also references: Council book of Drogheda - Jackson references Starting in 1657, the first generation -Richard JACKSON of Drogheda (carpenter, sheriff etc.) - seems to have been quite successful. His son, Alderman Richard JACKSON also seems to have succeeded although his various pension requests in 1713-1715 lead one to wonder how well he was doing near the end of his life. By 1727, his son George seems even more financially precarious as he pleads for money so he can place his two sons as apprentices. The Corporation finally says, enough in 1730: and yt for the future, no petition or application be received from the said George Jackson for any further relief. This work was significantly helped thanks to the index of this book created to Brendan Hall. PIPPARDs of County Louth Deeds. This page is not meant to be an exhaustive summary of all deeds pertaining to the PIPPARDs of County Louth. It only includes the ones that I have found as part of exploring JACKSON-PIPPARD connections as well as ones that can be found on Nick Reddan's excellent site. As in all of this work, we are all standing on the shoulders of others. As always, if there are any errors - I love to be notified so I can fix them ASAP. Also, if you know more about some of these stories, I'd like to hear from you as well.
