William JOHN Thompson b. 1878 is brother to Robert Henry. I think he married Emily Cunningham, not sure, and had Maggie 1906, Edna 1908, and William John 1910 per 1911 census. Are you referring to him? I am following Amsterdam Thompsons from Joshua and (probably)son Samuel's son Robert Henry arrives in NY in 1907 a few months earlier than your Robert. You can see him go to Joseph Acheson in Amsterdam while your Robert goes to AZ and mentions his father living in Bleary on ellisisland I have Porters in my tree, but don't see any connected to Thompsons, Pages, or Cunninghams yet. Porters are common at the Knocknamuckley church. Margaret Alexander is not a common name at all. I live near the State of Washington and census records and will see what I can figure out. If you look for Pages, look for Peggs too as the names are interchanged commonly. There were many near Corcreany near Bleary and Ellen Pegg/Page is common. THomas Page and Ellen Carson are probably the parents of your Ellen if they have child Ellen. Can't see any signs of that yet. Thomas lived in Ballydougan in 1860 and Bleary with dau Sarah Canavan in the 1901 census. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Also my cousin Maragret worked in the Linen Mills and I think she lived in or around Portadown. My father arrived in New York in 1907 By the way I am not that old, child of a second marriage to a lot younger wife. Her father William James Thompson came to the US some time between 1920-1940 and he is buried in Washington state. I do remember reading some old letters dated 1954 where a Mrs. Porter(she lived in Belfast) saw my father and uncle and was surprised to see them since they were supposed to be in the States. The only reason I knew about the church was that my Aunt Margaret Alexander sent my father the local paper and news of the church. There is a Presbyterian Joseph Thompson in Ballynabragget with wife Edith Mary. In 1901 they were 34 and 32 years old and Edith Mary was said to be Welch. In 1911 she said she was from England. Possibly her last names is Jones as that was written as her last name on the 1901 census apparently as a mistake. They had no children in 1901 and 1911. They have servant William McMullan, a Catholic. There is William Thompson married to Ellen McMullan having son Joseph in 1976. Possibly it is this Joseph. There was some mention by Ms. Jeffers years ago of a William associated with your Robert Henry. Do you know anything about this? There is also a tale of Joseph Thompson, obviously not the same, being beaten and killed in 1885 after making religious comments in a pub. Family lived later in Antrim, Scotland?, and Canada and was connected to Joshua's family which has many, many Robert Henrys. James Clark was probably a 'civil BILL officer' someone who worked for the court service. I have seen this often as an occupation. Maybe he iussed or delivered summons Pauline www.irishhomesteads.com On Wed, Mar 24, 2010 at 5:56 AM, Jo-Ann Blomquist <[email protected]>wrote: > Geraldine, > > I have the following marriage record.... > > 8 June 1851, William HARDING, 22, bachelor, Mason, Newry, son of Thomas > HARDING, Mason to Eliza CLARK, 18, spinster, Newry, daughter of James > CLARK, > Civil Ball (?) I have Robert Thompson in Bleary in 1901 44 Church of Ireland Cambric weaver, wife Eleanor 43 cambric weaver, Martha 13 cambric weaver, Robert 12, Samuel 9 Sarah 5 and Evelene 3 In 1911 I have Robert Thompson 54 cambric weaver Church of Ireland, Ellen Jane 54, Martha 23 cambric weaver, Samuel G 19, Sarah 15 hooker, and Evelyn 14 folder. Robert has left. These people are listed right after Albert Wilson 13 in 1901, son of William Wilson, Presbyterians, though the family was fairly liberal about interfaith marriages. Albert was married in Tullylish Church of Ireland and was probably the Albert Wilson in Globe, Arizona Robert went to see. Albert was not in the 1911 Irish census, but may have returned to get married during the US 1910 census. I did not check on him yet. The Wilsons are in my family line. I was looking for where people were born and Ellen Jane was said to be born in Co. Down. I know people take a very casual approach to answers in the Irish census, but this is not matching up. Did you get a marriage certificate for Robert and Ellen, Feb 8, 1877 at Knocknamuckley? Who does it list as parents? Why does Robert list Albert as a cousin? Was it costly to use the researcher? Were they value for money? I have fox family members probably born in 1827- present by 1853 for a marriage in Armagh but no guarantee they were born in the area, then all seem gone by late 1860's- where to for most im unsure. I had contact with the church of england and ireland in tartaraghan and drumcree that came up with a little bit of information but nothing of substance. We get the message in australia that ireland records are hit and miss as a result of not only the past strife between the religions but also as the records were kept in the parish and apart from the mormons research not everything is easy to locate.good luck with your research- regards Glenn Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
