Hi Erica: Thanks for your reply. You should be able to reach Dillon McGee at dillon.mcgee@sympatico.ca . I hope that you can connect with the Hearty family. I hope to add more pioneers from County Armagh to Canada within the next few days. Several of the 1851 census takers over here carefully recorded the County of Origin in Ireland of the families from Armagh and sometimes recorded the names of parishes or townlands. When I find more, I'll add them to the table at www.bytown.net/armaghtocanada.htm . If anyone on this list has family connections to Canada (or the USA) before 1850, I'd be glad to hear from them. If you would like to have a web page on my site about pre-1850 families, just send me a short history of your family in an e-mail and I'll set up a dedicated page for you. My web site gets a lot of hits from researchers all over North America. There was heavy Irish migration to Canada between 1820 and 1855. After 1847, many just took advantage of the cheaper shipping fares to Canada and eventually moved on to the USA. Thanks again, ... Hello, Mr. Clark: I'm interested in all of the folks who came from County Armagh between 1820 and 1855 and who settled in Ontario and Quebec, Canada. I have some McGee / McKee ancestors who came over in 1828 to work at building the Rideau Canal here and I've found pockets of folks from Armagh who seem to have come to Canada in small groups (maybe 5 or 6 families). I've just started a web page for these pioneer families. It's at www.bytown.net/armaghtocanada.htm . There is a search engine on the bottom of that page where you can search for surnames (e.g. Clark and Clarke, one at a time) are you can search for places such as Gananoque, County Armagh, Forkhill, Keady, etc. I'd be glad to hear from others on this list whose ancestors came from Armagh to Canada. Dear Friends, My gg gm was Mary Mears, wife of Thomas Haydock, of Lowertown, Tyrone. The 1911 Census says she was born in Armagh, c1825. By another source, her parents were Mary and John Mears. Have not found very many Mears/Meers/Mear, etc. in Armagh. What few there are seem to be in the Craigavon area. Most numerous in Meath/West Meath; I have not searched this. Any body out there have a connection? Deborah McDonald, born c1767, probably Mullahead, Kilmore, Armagh, married, 1795, Anthony Haddock/Haydock. Very few McDonalds in Armagh, but a pretty good collection of McDonell in Kilmore. Any Connection? My Armagh Haydock/Haddock family descends from that of Stangmore, Tyrone family, and include, in Armagh, James, Anthony, and John or Jacob, in last half of Eighteenth Century. Any help apreciated. Hi Sharon, I enjoyed your blog. I, too, share my research. I have my family tree online (without info on living relatives) and on my website. As I research data, looking for more info on my family, I put all I find on the various sections of my website. I started my website in 2001 when data wasn't as readily available online like it is today. Now that I am retired, it has become my part time job. I love it when someone writes me and tells me something they found on my website has helped them unlock some family mysteries. However, we have little information other than that he was a merchant seaman before he emigrated & that he lived & died in Connecticut but we have no idea of the location or his occupation, family details etc. He must have been of some standing in his community as, on his death between 1910-1930, a copy of the local newspaper was sent to my great grandfather & the front page was edged in black in memory of Daniel. The only photo we had of him was thrown away by someone after my gran died & I am having problems finding census records that fit what little we know. We do have a photo of a lady which was taken in a photographer's studio in Thomaston, Connecticut sometime in the late 19th century & we believe she may be the wife of Daniel as the photo was sent to my great grandfather around that time. I'm sorry the details appear a little vague but! I am still working on this line of my family.
