Hi List, I have a found a marriage record for a Jane Patterson, Father John and Robert Carson father Joseph on 12 Feb 1861 Lurgan Armagh. Can I get any more information than this and which is the best place/site to order it from? Jane Carson, I think, died 1873 I would like to see if they had any children 1861-1873 Is there anyone else researching the John Patterson family it's a new addition to my Down, Carson Family. Regards Greta Harman NZ
I am a descendant of Joseph and Sarah Courtney of Armagh [County] and of Belfast. They had several children one of whom was my paternal grandmother Elizabeth Courtney who was born in March around 1875. They went to New York where they lived in Amsterdam. Elizabeth Courtney married Lotus Loren Clark with whom they had three sons one of whom was my father Robert Harold Clark, who was born in 1914 in Schenetady, New York. Eventually the Clark family moved to Atlanta, Georgia. The Courtney family belonged here in the United States to the Episcopal Church. I suppose in Armagh it would have been the Church of England. I am trying to find any Courtney relatives living in Northen Ireland today. I do not Know Sarah Courtney's maiden name, and I do not know the relatives of either Sarah or of Joseph Courtney, but I believe that they probably left family when they moved to America. I would appreciate any information anyone might have. Thank you, Ethel Clark Lambert

When there are so many people with the same or similar names, its hard to find a match. I have seen this even in the city of New York with people who have similar names to my family, but they have different occupations or different children's names. There's no comprehensive database of all baptisms. You need to search church by church. And few of the records are on line. I looked in Griffiths Valuation and it only has one William Taggart in Co Armagh. In 1864, he rented a house and 11 acres of land (split into two different lots - 9A & 9B) in the townland of Grange Lower. He also sublet a number of properties to other tenants. Grange Lower is to the west of Portadown. It's on the modern B131 road. www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/index.xml If you have no other leads on where your Taggart family came from in Armagh, it might be worth investigating this family, in case they are yours. It's difficult to say for certain which church they would have attended. Local enquiries might be necessary. The records of the local churches have mostly been copied and are held in PRONI in Belfast. You can order copies of most of the microfilms in to your nearest LDS library. www.proni.gov.uk/index/research_and_records_held/catalogues_guides_indexes_and_leaflets/online_guides_and_indexes.htm Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I have just posted a piece on my blog, that includes links to research where I have cobbled together what I can, and tried to make sense of it. Call it thinking out loud - in public. Since I can go no further on my own, I have posted what I have in the hopes that either someone else can make sense of it all, or else some parts of it will help someone else to break through their brick wall. Please let me know if either happen for you. It makes my day. This work that I am sharing in this piece focuses mostly on JACKSONs and memorials of deeds, but the JACKSONs had connections in just about every county, particularly in the Quaker and Protestant circles, but not exclusively in them. SEE: http://sharonoddiebrown.blogspot.com/2011/05/facts-and-theories.html NOTE: In the piece that I link to at the end of this post, there are also extensive footnotes about both Strettell and Lodowick JACKSON of Youghall, Co. Cork. As always, I appreciate hearing about errors of fact, typos, spelling mistakes - all my sins of omission and commission. Sharon Oddie Brown. -- Sharon Oddie Brown, Roberts Creek, BC, Canada. Hi Heppy, I don't have any information about the COCHRAN'S... but I do have a query about the HALL connection in Armagh. I have a Jane HALL whose father was Andrew HALL of Leggacorry, Armagh. She was born c 1825, then married a DAVIS and that was in Lurgan. I know it is a 20 year gap form your 1805 date but maybe a descentant? Hello Jean, I know that she was born in 1833 but date unknown and place ,Newry. She married William Harding in 1851 and they lived most of their lives in Newry. I have the National School records for several of their children. She does not show up in the 1901 census but is showing up in the 1911 census. She is at the age of 77. William was a stone mason and so may have moved around just as his son Issac did and that would account for them not being in the 1901 census. But wherre were they??? Any help would be appreciated, Geraldine --- On Fri, 5/27/11, jean old <jeanallensassy@hotmail.com> wrote: From: jean old <jeanallensassy@hotmail.com> Subject: Re: [ARMAGH] Co Armagh Emigration to USA To: nir-armagh@rootsweb.com Date: Friday, May 27, 2011, 2:55 AM Hello Gerladine do you have any dates for your Clarke family Kind regards Jean Armagh
