I'm researching my Garland ancestors from Co. Antrim who were Roman Catholic. My great grandfather James Garland was born in Lurgill, Ballinderry in August 1865 and immigrated to Canada in 1887 and then to the US in 1890. His father (my great-great grandfather) was also James Garland and was married to Alice Tipping in 1863. They had a least two children; namely, James and Hugh. I believe Alice died and James remarried Ann McCavagan. Together they produced two more children - Anna (b. 1876) and John (b. 1881). They may have lived in Derryclone, Aghagallon at the time. I do know they worshiped at Aghagallon Church (Roman Catholic.) I believe my great-great-great grandfather was also James Garland born in 1799 in Lurgill and married Rachel Ferris in 1826. Between 1820 and 1846, they had several children; namely, John, Eleanor, Jane, Elizabeth, James, William, and Richard. If what I have described above sounds at all familiar or even of slight interest, I'd sure like to hear from you.
