Peter, There are a couple of possibilities which excludes Whiley, which so far indicates a Scottish or English origin with no Wholey variant. The surname Hoyle/Wholey is found in the England and Wales Civil Registration 1837-199, but only a few. Hoyle is also found in Dromore, Co. Down, Ireland, as well as Dublin. The surname Wholey/Whouley is found in Co. Cork, Ireland in 1819.
