    1. Snoddy surname
    2. Hello Carol and all, I am descended from John and Jane Cowen Snoddy through their daughter Mary Snoddy (b. abt 1756), who married Andrew Coan. They are all buried at the cemetery of Nazareth Presbyterian Church in Spartanburg Co South Carolina. John and Jane were from Antrim, and came to the Americas on the ship "James and Mary", which had been chartered by Rev. William Martin. Do you recognize any of these folks? I am wondering if we might have a connection here. Related surnames are Hoy, Crawford, Coan/Cowen, and Snoddy. Thanks, Win *** previous message below *** After being a quiet observer on the mailing list, I've decided to "jump in". So, I'm hoping that someone may have come across the SNODDY family name and have some information to share. I have been able to trace my ancestor Samuel Snoddy (b: 1727) to Larne, specifically the Ballysnod, Browndodd and Ballyrickard areas. Samuel left Larne in 1748 with his new wife, Elizabeth Sloan and came to Pennsylvania and then traveled on into North Carolina and the family then scattered to Tennessee, Alabama and Arkansas. I was blessed to be able to visit Northern Ireland last year and stayed in Raymond Snoddy's cottage on the Antrim Highway. Leonard Sluman and his lovely wife, Lily, chauffered us around the lands of my ancestors. Leonard has become the Snoddy line expert in NI, but we have not been able to prove who "my" Samuel's parents were. We feel that one of the Snoddy's buried at St. Cedma's is my ancestor's parent, but..... So, would appreciate any information any of you may have come across in your research. Thank you so much. -- Carol Snoddy Byler Huntsville, AL Webpage: http://home.HiWAAY.net/~csbyler/Genealogy/Snoddy/Snoddy.html
