Information on certificates suggests our Agnes McMASTER, daughter of Samuel and Agnes, was born about 1825 in Antrim, but she may be the Agnes born 1824 at Kircubbin (IGI). She married William McCULLOUGH about 1845, and they had at least three daughters: Margaret, Agnes and Sarah Jane, the last born in Sydney, where William was an innkeeper. His parents were Robert and Sarah McCullough. Love to hear from anyone with a possible connection. Maureen Robinson, Canberra, Australia
Maureen - This isn't much help, but my grandmother's sister was married to a man named Hamilton MCCULLOUGH back in the 1890's in New Windsor, NY USA. They had three sons...two were married, but had no children, and the third died in an accident when he was still a young man back in 1933. There are no descendants of this family line living today. This McCullough family had been in Orange County/Newburgh/New Windsor NY as far back as the 1840's and one of them carved the gravestone for another one of my ancestors. It is more than likely that they originated in Antrim, as did my WISEMAN forebears, from Ballywatermoy Townland in Lower Toome in the central part of the County.. Also, in the 1950's I knew a MCMASTER named William whose family were from a small farming community in Southeastern Pennsylvania USA called Landenberg. He is still around, but I haven't been in touch with him since 1953. Is this County Antrim or Antrim town. What religion were they? Kircubbin is in County Down (Ards Peninsula) Liam "A bird in the bush is worth two in the cat" ----- Re > Information on certificates suggests our Agnes McMASTER, daughter of > Samuel and Agnes, was born about 1825 in Antrim, but she may be the Agnes > born 1824 at Kircubbin (IGI). They were Presbyterian. Antrim town or county was not specified. And yes, Kircubbin is in Down, but Agnes' Australian born family, some years after her death, may not have been entirely geographically accurate. Finding a baptism with right time and parents, not far from Belfast, seemed to deserve further investigation.
