I am looking for a John SMYTH who was named executor in his brother William SMYTH's will in Dauphin Co., PA. Will dated 27 May 1801, witnessed by John Smith and Henry Graham. Probated 26 September 1801 in Dauphin Co. Coexecutor was William's daughter Agnes Smyth. William was born in (we believe) Giant's Causeway, Co. Antrim, North Ireland between 1722 and 1751. Son, William, jr., was born there in 1771. They were active in Old Hanover (Presbyterian) church in Dauphin co. for four or five years in late 1790s and through William Sr.'s death in 1801. From there, the family moved to Center Co., PA, through William Jr.'s death in 1863, then to Seneca co., OH, and finally to Chicago, where my grandfather, J. Herb Smythe, was born, and my father, Herb Jr. was born and so was I (in 1924). I have had no contact with anyone who might have been descended from brother john, so I am delighted to hear from you. Where did your John go from PA? That SMITH spelling is always daunting, but must be dealt with! I published a book, The Smythe Sword, in 1992. It follows the family of William (d. 1801) down through our children and grandchildren. Since the book, even some great grands! If you'd like a copy, it is $40 plus $2 p & h, from me: Alice Smythe McCabe 2045 Northland Dr. Lawrenceville, GA 30044 770- 963-9584
