    3. I am new to the list, and trying to find very elusive ancestors. My gg grandfather was Peter WINNING. He was born (according to army discharge papers) in the 'parish of Kirkin*iola (maybe 's'), near the town of Ballymena' in 1835. I can't find any trace of this place - anyone out there know it? He joined the army in 1852 and went to India for about 16 years. He then moved to Dublin where he married (1) Ellen Hill and (2) Catherine Dowman (Doman), my gg grandmother. Also looking for John WINNING, born (again according to army discharge papers) in Randalstown in 1836. He joined the army in Belfast in 1855. On discharge, he also went to Dublin, and was living at the same address in Dublin as Peter WINNING in 1876. I have no record of him other than this at present due to various family mysteries! These two may be brothers or cousins. If anyone recognizes this family I would love to hear from them. Many thanks for your time. Glenda Boulter England

    3. Hi Glenda! Have you looked for marriage records for Peter and John in Ireland.Civil registration of births, deaths, and marriages began in 1864on a nationwide basis. Your local Family History Center of the LDS Church can show you how to use the alphabetical index by year for all of Ireland which have been microfilmed. The actual certificates have been filmed as well for certain years so you may be able to order the film of the certificate. If not filmed you can get a photocopy rather inexpensively from Joyce House in Dublin. You want the short form which cost about 1 punt 50 pence, not the long form which is much more money and doesn't give any more vital info. While you're at the local FHC have them show you how to use the Family History Library Catalog (FHLC) to discover the huge volume of Irish records the LDS have filmed. 3. Hi there, It is the Parish of Kirkinriola. It is pretty much in the centre of Antrim. I have a scanned copy of the parishes which shows its location. If you don't mind an attachment (I don't have any viruses), I can send you a copy if you like. Just let me know. Cheers, Christopher Dunlop Cairns Australia ----- Original Message ----- From: "Glenda Boulter" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, 27 November 2001 5:28 AM Subject: WINNING family I am new to the list, and trying to find very elusive ancestors.
