There is a story in our family that one of our earliest known Antrim ancestors James Young held the title Lord Champness. I am told that this was an honorary title which formed part of the traditions of Northern Ireland and was probably related somehow to Belfast. It was not, I gather, a hereditary title like a peerage, but some sort of honorary title awarded from time to time to an individual. Doese anyone know what it could mean, and where I might find a list of the incumbents? Ted Marr 28 October 2001
