    3. I am trying to trace my Gilbert side of the family and would be grateful of any information anyone would have of the ancestors of William James Gilbert, b.1826. My line came to Katikati in NZ and the family was closely tied with the Killen's and Wilsons. Below is the information I already have through to my grandfather, John Killen Wilson Gilbert. Information to date has been gratefully received from Ted Marr (http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=tedmarr) and The FAMILY TREE of the WILSONS of KNOWEHEAD (www.island.net/~rjbw/WilsonFT.html) 1. Stephen GILBERT I am not certain that this is the name of William James Gilbert's father. It seems likely, however, since W.J. Gilbert named one of his sons Stephen, and Stephen was not a very common name among Irish Presbyterian families. Spouse: unknown (m. Gilbert) Married ca. 1820? in Ireland. Children and grandchildren: 1. 2. William James GILBERT (ca. 1826 - 1880); 9 grandchildren 2. William James GILBERT, b. ca. 1826 in Belfast, Antrim, Ireland, d. 1880 in Belfast, Antrim, Ireland, He is said to have been a grain and seed merchant "of considerable fortune", resident in "Castleton Park", Belfast, Antrim, Ireland Father: 1. Stephen GILBERT ( - ) Mother: unknown (m. Gilbert) ( - ) Details of his birth and father's name are taken from a very sketchy IGI entry. It seems likely to be correct: the date and place are what they should be, and Stephen Gilbert is a likely name for W. J. Gilbert's father. He named one of his sons Stephen, and Stephen was not a very common name among Irish Presbyterian families. Spouse: Ellen Orr KILLEN, b. aft. 1824? in Ireland Father: Edward KILLEN (bef. 1800 - 1856) Mother: Mary YOUNG (1802 - 1893) Married 6 August 1851 in Belfast, Antrim, Ireland. Children and grandchildren: 1. 3. Edward Killen GILBERT (ca. 1852 - 1896); 3 grandchildren 2. 4. Maud (Minnie?) GILBERT (aft. 1853? - ) 3. 5. Harry GILBERT (aft. 1855? - ) 4. 6. William GILBERT (aft. 1857? - ) 5. 7. Annie GILBERT (aft. 1859? - ); 7 grandchildren 6. 8. George GILBERT (aft. 1861? - bef. 1863?) 7. 9. Stephen GILBERT (2) (aft. 1863? - ) 8. 10. Jane GILBERT (aft. 1865? - ) 9. 11. Ellenor GILBERT (1866 - ) 3. Edward Killen GILBERT, b. ca. 1852 in Belfast, Antrim, Ireland, d. 22 June 1896 in Katikati, New Zealand, According to Mark Gilbert, he was a butcher in Belfast, Antrim, Ireland, Arrived in New Zealand bef. 1880?, cause of death After being injured in an accident at Waihi,, buried aft. 22 June 1896 in Katikati, New Zealand Father: 2. William James GILBERT (ca. 1826 - 1880) Mother: Ellen Orr KILLEN (aft. 1824? - ) Some information added/corrected by Mark Gilbert ([email protected]), February 2001 Spouse: Martha Killen WILSON, b. 1851 in Whitefield, Northamptonshire, England, d. 5 September 1908 in Katikati, New Zealand, buried aft. 5 September 1908 in Katikati, New Zealand Father: William WILSON (2) (1800 - 1877) Mother: Sarah KILLEN (1808 - 1874) Particulars of her date and place of birth supplied by Mark Gilbert ([email protected]), April 2001 Married 22 December 1881 in Katikati, New Zealand. Children and grandchildren: 1. William (Will) GILBERT (ca. 1882? - ); 3 grandchildren 2. John Killen Wilson GILBERT (1884 - 1918); 2 grandchildren 3. 3. To Mark Gilbert: Would you know the names of any possible brothers and sisters of Martha Killen Wilson, daughter of William Wilson (1800-1877) of Whitefield, Northants.? And what is this reference to the Wilsons of Knowhead?
