    1. lisburn methodist church
    2. hello, i am hoping for a longshot. My g.g. grandfather was a primitive methodist minister named William McGavern. He got his start in the ministry about 1862 in Lisburn, outside of Belfast. The archivist for the Methodist Church indicated that it was likely the church or area of ireland from where he grew up. Until 1833 his father John McGavern served in the 6th Inniskilling Dragoons, which travelled about Europe. We are not sure exactly where the family was between 1833 and 1862, but think they may have settled near the Porto Bello Barricks near Belfast. William left for Canada in 1865. I am hoping to find evidence that Mary and John McGavern (his parents) are buried in or near Lisburn, either in the Methodist cemetery, Church of Ireland, or even Presbyterian (mary was scottish). I have absolutely no idea when either of them died, just know they did not emigrate to Canada with their children. I have ordered the death indexes for ireland (post 1864) from LDS but am waiting for their arrival. Any suggestions about search ideas would be welcome. i am completely clueless. thanks, heidi ford [email protected]
