I am new to this list and am hoping someone can help me. I have been tracing my husband's family tree for about a year and recently a cousin of his asked if I could help him. On his behalf I am trying to trace a family by the name of ROSS who, so the family story goes, had one (or more) butchers shops in Belfast in the 1930's. This may not be true but I thought if anyone had access to any trade directories for that period they could see if there were any butchers by the name of ROSS. On the death of the head of the household his wife and daughter moved to Portaferry and possibly sold the shops. The son Alexander was in the RAF at the time and married a Jessie GEBBELS in Oxfordshire, England in 1940. They had one son Colin John ROSS born in 1942, however, they divorced when Colin was young. He remembers visiting Portaferry when he was about 4. He believes his father died around 1950 but has no real information. He would dearly love to find out about his Irish family and find his father's grave if possible. If anyone can help I would be really grateful. Any suggestions on other avenues to pursue would also be welcome as I haven't any knowledge on the types of records that may be available in Ireland as my own research has been in England and Scotland.
