    3. Hi List I tried to reply to Eileen off-list but my message returned undeliverable, so am posting to the list in the hope that Eileen has access. You posted a message to the list in May this year giving your interest in Crowes of Ballynure. I think we have a connection about 3 generations back, although unfortunately I don't have an awful lot of information for you. When your e-mail came in I gave my mother a copy as she was a Crowe and had relatives from around Ballyboley / Straid / Ballynure (they're all within a few miles radius). It has taken her until now, but she has unearthed some information given to her by the wife of John Agnew a distant cousin. Benjamin and Elizabeth Crowe (sorry - maiden name for Eliz) had a son Samuel who married Margery Dollard 2 April 1839. They lived in Straid. No other information known, but I am assuming Sam is yours. Benjamin and Elizabeth had a son Alexander Crowe, his details as follows: Alexander Crowe b ? X Annie Weatherup 2 June 1828 (she was the daughter of John and Sally Weatherup). Their children: Robert b 7 July 1828 went to America Jenny b 19 March 1829 X David Clements of Headwood, Kilwaughter Elizabeth b 24 June 1831 Alexander b24 April 1832 John (twin) b 14 Nov 1833 went to America Patrick (twin) b 14 Nov 1833 X Margaret Rowney and thought to have lived at Ballynashee Ellen b 12 June 1837 Benjamin b 12 July 1839 X Elizabeth Davis of Ballyvernstown Glenoe * Thomas Hugh b 18 Dec 1841 X Mary Jamison, (her mother was Curran)** Samuel b 27 July 1847 (died in infancy) Samuel b 13 June 1849 went to America Madge b 17 Mar 1852 X James McCullough of Ballysillan, Belfast * Benjamin Crowe and Elizabeth Davis are my mother's grandparents ** Thomas Hugh and Mary's daughter Mary Agnes married John Agnew of Ballylagan. It was the wife of their son John who provided this information. My mother says that John Agnew told her that 2-3 years ago he heard that a "Crowe" was being buried in Raloo cemetery and he attended the funeral. The lady who had died apparently came from around Maghera in Co Londonderry and John Agnew got into conversation at the funeral with a man from there. It seems that this lady was in some way linked to the Crowes from Straid (we think your Samuel's family). Unfortunately John Agnew seems to know nothing more about the family - Mum did ring but both John and his wife are very old and not in good health. She asked about Samuel's family but they didn't seem able to help and she didn't feel she could push them. I should say that Lyle, McAnally, McDowell and Simms are all good solid Ballynure / Larne names so it sounds like they stayed around Ballynure / Straid for a while. If you are near an LDS Family History Centre, it may be worthwhile ordering the 1901 census record film for the area. I must confess this has raised my interest again in the Crowes - I had been concentrating on my father's side - the Mc/MacQuarries. Have you any information on Andrew's siblings or what became of them ? 2. one of the problems with these sites is people responding "off list." This eliminates any other possible connection. ----- Original Message ----- From: BARBARA MacQUARRIE <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, August 11, 2001 1:26 AM Subject: Re: Roll call > Hi List > I tried to reply to Eileen off-list but my message returned > undeliverable, so am posting to the list in the hope that Eileen has > access. > > You posted a message to the list in May this year giving your interest > in Crowes of Ballynure.
