I've been researching a McDonald family that immigrated to the US in about 1844 from County Antrim. My mother is a McDonald. The family appears to have gotten to southern Wisconsin (Kenosha County, around Wheatland), where several McDonald brothers made land purchases from the Federal government in 1843-44. The family is repeatedly cited as being from Belfast, but of Scottish ancestry. I haven't gotten any further back than these immigrants to Wisconsin in 1843-44, who appear to have been born in the early 1800s. Some in the McDonald family moved further west, settling in Iowa (Horton, Iowa, Bremer County, notheast of Des Moines) and some settling in South Dakota (a McDonald homesteaded in 1893). Would love to stay in touch with you, and see if these lineages eventually cross each other. Would also be interested in finding out if you've heard from others doing research on McDonalds with roots in County Antrim.
