There is an ongoing live TV view of the inside of an old Belfast pub taken from behind the bar. Looks like it could have been around for at least 100 years. In the latter part of that period the directories would almost certainly pick him up, and even in the earlier days landlords were well recorded. Could be listed under innkeepers, taverns, ale-house, beer-house or licensed premises depending on publication. As far as I can tell the following directories were published, see below, copied from previous message 12.7.2001. Sorry, I know of nothing more specific available on any website. Chris Morgan ______________________________________________________________ There is a comprehensive list of directories available for Belfast and they are available for public view at several major locations, but unfortunately not all are available at each. The best collection of 19th Century material may be at the Linen Hall Library in Belfast. 20th Century directories are easily viewed at the Central Library in Belfast, and PRONI also have a good selection. The National Library in Dublin has many, and the British Library in London, too. The British Library and Linen Hall Library have searchable website catalogues to establish what they may have. Additionally, for all those around the globe, the LDS has a good selection of microfilm copies of 19th Century directories. These can be ordered for viewing at their local FHCs. The actual directories available can be found from their searchable catalogue on their website. The Ulster Historical Foundation publishes a reprinted version of the 1807 and 1808 Joseph Smyth's Belfast Directories. A reprinted Martin's 1841-2 Directory can still be found in some places, published by the Mid-Antrim Historical Group in 1992. From the former publication I quote very briefly the dates for which directories were published - by various publishers, 1805 1806 1807 1808 1809 1819 (2) 1820-21 1824 1831-2 1835-6 1839 1840-1 1841-2 1842-3 1843-4 (2) 1846 (2) 1850 1852 (2) 1854 1856 (2) 1858 1860-1 1861-2 1863-4 1865-6 (2) 1868 1870 (2) 1877 1878 1880 1881 1884 1887 1890 1892 1893 1894 (2) 1895 1896 1897 1898 1899 (2) 1900 (2)
