Hi all I am re-posting the message below: "I have some birth certificates with the districts listed as Belfast Urban 4, Urban 10 and Urban 11. I'm trying to find out where these districts are in Belfast so that I can do a search on the 1901 census." The Urban 11 certificate has the street name Ardilea St for the year 1895. Would anybody know where this is? Any help appreciated. Also, are there any good websites with street maps of Belfast? Regards David

All of the developed areas of Belfast are covered at the original scale of 1:2500 for the period 1902-1930 (varies according to sheet). Website is at http://www.alangodfreymaps.co.uk/ Excellent value, see below. However, Ardilea Street still appears in the Index of Streets on my 1998 map, postal area BT14, in square F6. It is a cul-de-sac, just to the south of Old Park Road, taking off to the city side of it's junction with Old Park Avenue. St Gemma's Secondary School is between Ardilea Street and Ardoyne Avenue. On the 1901 Shankhill Ordnance map Ardilea Street leads to the back entrance of the large flax spinning mill, Prospect Mills, immediately next to the Highfield Weaving Factory, both of which fronted onto Flax Street, itself leading off the Crumlin Road. At that junction was Brookfield Flax Spinning Mill and the much larger Crumlin Road Flax Spinning Mill. There were also two reservoirs on the corner. At the other side of Crumlin Road was the Edenberry Flax Spinning Mill. On the other side of Flax Street was the Rosebank Weaving Factory. The sites of these mills are now occupied by the Hillview Enterprise Park, Ewarts Industrial Estate, Edenberry Industrial Estate and Brookfield Mill Industrial Estate. They were big mills! Hope this helps. What about the Belfast 4 and 10 birth registrations? Chris Morgan
