Dear Brian, Thank you for posting the lists of Ulster Defence Union members. I suspect (don't know!) that these folk were the "great and the good" of the province. I do know of two in the list - both MANNs - who seemed to be connected with the legal profession: H.C. Mann, J.P., Drumlamp(?), Castledawson would be Henry Church Mann (Justice of the Peace) of Drumlamph Co Tyrone Wm. Hy. Mann, Portrush is more interesting to me. My Mann lot were from Portrush - harbour master and assorted nautical types. This William Henry Mann seems to have been an unrelated immigrant to Portrush. His death registration : 1 July 1897. William Henry Mann (from Portrush) died at 7 Chichester Terrace, Belfast, barrister age 41 married, Bright's disease, registered by Mary Andrew. And his will: William Henry Mann's estate of a few hundred pounds was administered in favour of his widow Catherine E D Mann of 84 Guildhall Street, Bury St Edmonds. The administration record also notes that he was 'late of Portrush'. Regards Norman http://www.parkesfamily.btinternet.co.uk/

Significant updates have been made to my website. See photos, maps and text from early references in the pages on Drumbo (new page) & Holywood, Co. Down, Ireland. The site develops the story of the STRONG family's history through Co. Down to Belfast and subsequently their emigration in 1875 to New Zealand and then to Australia. Note that stories with many photos are now given of my grandfather and his brothers and one sister in NZ and AUS (5 further new pages). Any comments, suggestions or information would be gratefully received. The address is: http://www.pnc.com.au/~plstrong/ -- **Philip Strong**Email:plstrong@pnc.com.au**Blue Mountains, Australia**

1851 Census Index Liverpool—Irish born on my web site at the link below. Alternatively type Jean McCarthy into the Google search engine for a direct link. I have added 1500 more records to the Index for the 1851 Census for Liverpool Irish born people. This concludes all the surnames beginning with ‘B’. I will commence transcribing the next section of surnames beginning with ‘C’ A.S.A.P. This is rather a large project so it will take time to complete it. Thank you for your patience. Kind Regards. I have updated the Ireland books section of my website. New books have been added in all sections: Parish History, Local History, Genealogy, History, Fiction. New volunteers have also been added to do lookups in the books. You can find the links by going to the URL below my name. At the top of my homepage, under Ireland, click on Ireland Books. That will take you to the Ireland Books Discussion Mailing List website. At the bottom of that page, you will find links to both the Parish History Books and to the Ireland Book List. If you would like to add books to this website, just use the convenient forms at the bottom of all the book pages. If you would like to volunteer to do lookups, just email me off list. If your email address has changed and you are a lookup volunteer, please write me off list, giving the the book category and title. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com
