There is a comprehensive list of directories available for Belfast and they are available for public view at several major locations, but unfortunately not all are available at each. The best collection of 19th Century material may be at the Linen Hall Library in Belfast. 20th Century directories are easily viewed at the Central Library in Belfast, and PRONI also have a good selection. The national Library in Dublin has many, and the British Library in London, too. The British Library and Linen hall Library have searchable website catalogues to establish what they may have. Additionally, for all those around the globe, the LDS has a good selection of microfilm copies of 19th Century directories. These can be ordered for viewing at their local FHCs. The actual directories available can be found from their searchable catalogue on their website. The Ulster Historical Foundation publishes a reprinted version of the 1807 and 1808 Joseph Smyth's Belfast Directories. A reprinted Martin's 1841-2 Directory can still be found in some places, published by the Mid-Antrim Historical Group in 1992. From the former publication I quote very briefly the dates for which directories were published - by various publishers, 1805 1806 1807 1808 1809 1819 (2) 1820-21 1824 1831-2 1835-6 1839 1840-1 1841-2 1842-3 1843-4 (2) 1846 (2) 1850 1852 (2) 1854 1856 (2) 1858 1860-1 1861-2 1863-4 1865-6 (2) 1868 1870 (2) 1877 1878 1880 1881 1884 1887 1890 1892 1893 1894 (2) 1895 1896 1897 1898 1899 (2) 1900 (2) So, you're not short of potential material! Just how to get at it is the problem. I am researching the surname WEBSTER from Armagh and I believe family members moved to Co. Antrim in 1900 so thought I would try the Antrim list. I anyone is researching this surname I would like to hear from you. The two male WEBSTER's I am interested in would be Tom and Joseph, born in the late 1800's to Thomas WEBSTER and Mary BROWN. The daughter was Jenny. Hope to hear from someone. Lorraine British Columbia
Are directories available for the Belfast area for 1870. If anyone has one available I would appreciate a lookup for George LINDSAY living on Short Strand Street. Thanks so much for any help. Lorraine

Suggest you contact Joann Grano of the Dunlap/Dunlop Family Association...<[email protected]>...to see if she can help you. My Dunlap was named Margaret, and she flourished between 1785-1815 (est.) as the wife of a man named Wiseman. This family resided in Ballywatermoy townland, near the town of Cullybackey in Ahoghill Parish in County Antrim. If I am right, she would have been one of my grandmother's great-grandmothers. My Wiseman-Dunlap line of descent ended up in Newburgh, NY, by the late 1830's. Good luck! Hi All, I'm new to your list and so glad to have found you. I'm visiting N Ireland in August and would appreciate any suggestions on how to research the families of my gggrandparents, William DUNLAP and Jane ADAMS from Ballynagashel in the Ballymoney area. William DUNLAP, b.1806, and Jane ADAMS, b. 1809, were married abt.1832 in Ireland. Their first son, Thomas, was born in 1833 before they migrated to USA, settling in Lenawee and then Branch County, Michigan. Their other children were named William, James, Matilda, John, and Alexander. I have a copy of a letter William DUNLAP carried which was a letter of reference from a Rev. Robert Parks of the First Ballymoney Church (Presbyterian). Is it possible to search through old church records on site, or are the records held in a central place? Will look forward to hearing from you. Thanks, Ann Bordeaux

I heartly agree! highly recommend the Giants Causway Hotel. We had a large room with a wonderful view. The meals in the dining room are sumptious. Don't miss a tour of the Bushmils Distillery, in operation since 1604. . jesse mc ----- Original Message ----- From: "Margaret Aitken Bell" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, July 01, 2001 8:48 PM Subject: Re: Need B & B suggestion > I have stayed at the Causeway Hotel in N.
