Thanks to all who replied to my request for help with street locations in Urban Belfast. As a result, found a site where you can buy circa 1901 copies of Belfast maps: http://www.alangodfreymaps.co.uk/ and a site showing a detailed map of a large portion of Urban Belfast:www.belfast.net/mo/map.htm I hope this info helps others, 'cos that's what this game's all about! Regards David Australia
Thanks for your reply Chris. I gather you have a copy of the Ordinance map? I had a look at the Godfrey site and I will order a map for myself. Another lady replied to my posting and showed me a website with modern Belfast. I had been searching for such a site for a while with no luck. On the map it shows Ardilea St and also Ewarts Row and Lisburn Rd. Only one I haven't found is Silverstream (Rd?). This info should help me when I order the Belfast 1901 census because you can get your bearings when you're scrolling thru the info, I think? Anyway , if this isn't the case, it's still nice to know the locations of your rellies births! P.S. the website is: www.belfast.net/mo/map.htm Thanks again for your help. >Only one I haven't found is Silverstream (Rd?). That one is still there, up the Crumlin Road, past the bend where Ligoniel Road goes off to the west. Turn right onto Bilston Road then immediately left, and you're there. It's roughly parallel with Ballysillan Road, and can be accessed from that side also. Our Lady of Mercy Secondary School is on Silverstream Road. All the other Silverstream streets are in the same area of Ballysillan - Silverstream Avenue, Crescent, Park, Drive, Parade, and Gardens. Take your pick! Chris Morgan

Would it be possible to do a look up on your CD for the surname McMillen. I have no idea how to begin looking but understand I need to know which townland to look in. I have a Robert McMillen born about 1806 somewhere in Antrim. Possibly in Belfast. He left for the U.S. sometime after his marriage to Sarah Abernathy about 1825. If this CD would be able to tell me where there is a large concentration of McMillens that would be of help get me started. Any help greatly appreciated. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp
Roismaire: Does the Griffiths CD cover the time period of 1700-1760? Where can the CD be purchased? I am searching for Samuel's, surname DUFF. Any Samuel DUFF could be helpful in that time period. Thanks. Bonnie
Hi, Does anyone know where you can purchase microfiche of parts of Griffiths Valuation? Or does anyone have the relevant details of Carrickfergus areas? Lesley
Hi David If you go to www.belfast.net/mo/map.htm and click on the 3 mg map this shows Ardilea St, which runs off the Oldpark Road. As far as I know it is still there and inhabited. Can you decipher the addresses on the other two certificates for Urban 4 and 10 ? All of the developed areas of Belfast are covered at the original scale of 1:2500 for the period 1902-1930 (varies according to sheet). Website is at http://www.alangodfreymaps.co.uk/ Excellent value, see below. However, Ardilea Street still appears in the Index of Streets on my 1998 map, postal area BT14, in square F6. It is a cul-de-sac, just to the south of Old Park Road, taking off to the city side of it's junction with Old Park Avenue. St Gemma's Secondary School is between Ardilea Street and Ardoyne Avenue. On the 1901 Shankhill Ordnance map Ardilea Street leads to the back entrance of the large flax spinning mill, Prospect Mills, immediately next to the Highfield Weaving Factory, both of which fronted onto Flax Street, itself leading off the Crumlin Road. As you have the relevant streets would it not be easier to list them for us? PRONI in Belfast has an index to the streets. Perhaps somebody who has access might be able to help with which film you'll be likely to need. However, searching is not a simple task, even with that information, so if SKS is willing to do it once there's probably a lot of us who would jump at the offer. So any help may best be kept private! Wouldn't it be nice if PRONI could at least load that index onto their website? Then we might all be able to use the LDS films more easily. Assuming, of course, that the PRONI index ties in with the LDS references, which somebody is probably about to tell us it doesn't!! Chris Morgan

Hello there, I hope that you can solve the problem of sending out this information. I am a descendant of William Wallace and I would be very interested to read the information that you have.
