I have hit a "dead end" and hope this information may help. Thanks for your >time. Martin's Belfast Directory for 1841-42 lists the following Presbyterian Places of worship. In connexion with the General Assembly (12); Rosemary Street, Revs Samuel Hanna and Wm. Gibson Donegall Street, Rev George Bellis Fisherwick Place, Rev James Morgan May Street, Rev Henry Cooke Alfred Street, Rev John Edgar Townsend Street, Rev Josias Wilson Linen Hall Street, Rev Robert Wilson Alfred Street, Rev Joseph W Hunter York Street, Rev David Hamilton Berry Street, Rev Adam G Glasgow Ballymacarrett, Rev J Meneely Ballysillan, Rev M D Reid Under jurisdiction of Antrim Presbytery in connexion with the Remonstrant Synod (3); Rosemary Street, Revs Wm. Bruce and John S Porter Rosemary Street, Rev John Porter York Street, Rev Mr Bleakly In connexion with the reformed Synod of Ireland (2); Dublin Road, Rev John Alexander College Street West, Rev R J Watt In addition there were also listed under Presbyterian Independent, Donegall Street Society of Friends, Frederick Street Primitive Seceding, York Street, Rev R J Bryce This is significantly later than the period you are seeking. I have the histories of May Street and Fisherwick Place. The Fisherwick congregation was commenced in 1823, but the church did not open until November 1828. May Street opened in October 1829. Rosemary Street was earlier, but others were later in establishment. In 1823 the population of Belfast was probably under 40,000, mostly domiciled around the High Street area. "The west and south sides of the town in 1823 were still largely open country, with streams and rivers tumbling down the hills to provide the water and the power for the future linen industry." At that time here were only 4 Presbyterian churches. The first congregation was formed in Rosemary Street at a date I can't easily discover. The second congregation split off in 1708, but the account I have suggests that the new "hive" in the same enclosure. In 1721 a third congregation was formed, but they settled down only "a few perches distant". The Donegall Street Meeting House was built in 1794. As an outsider it is hard to relate the names of churches to precise geographical situations, but, if it's 1824 you're after, there wasn't too much built up towards Ballymurphy, and the folks only had 4 churches in Belfast to choose from, all within close distance in the centre. If it's a little later in time they could have been involved in the establishment of any one of quite a large number of new congregations. From what I can make out the people tried more than one, before finding the preachers, fellow church members, and style of service, and convenience of situation to suit. Congregations were not nicely nucleated and static. It's a real challenge to find where they worshipped!!! Then finding them in the records is another challenge in itself. Chris Morgan

    3. Hello Fellow List Members, I have been given reference to an ancestor being born in Bellip, County Antrim, Ireland... no date was given. He is listed in the Christening register at Chester Le Street, County Durham, England in 1801. Here is the data I was sent: Daniel GILLAND Born: Bellip, County Antrim, Ireland "pitman" (miner) There is a marriage record in 1791 of his marriage to Margaret WILKINSON at St. Bees, County Cumberland, England ************* My question is: Is there a parish church at Bellip or for that area that might have records on microfilm with the FHC, that can be ordered? Any guidance as to what records exist for this area would be appreciated. Regards, Virginia IN.. USA

I didn't find any direct connections in my book for the names you gave me, but did find these that are similar: In Ballysculty - Allex Locklan/Laughlin; None in Straidhaven. In one Townland over - Ballyrobin - I found a John McClenand and John, Thomas and Alex Robinson. Those are the closest matches I could find. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Karen Booth

    1. Réf. : Re: hateful messages
    2. I would like to pick up on on two things, Sharon, and I hope you don't consider this to be a "hateful message". First of all Dorothy's message wasn't hateful. Read it again. Secondly, this isn't America - it's a web list concerning ancestors from Co Antrim, Ireland and they all didn't end up in the USA - there are lots of people on the list from all over the world - Canada, New Zealand, Australia, UK and Ireland, etc. I myself am in France. I do agree with you that horrible things happened to us all on September 11th, not just in America. This horrible thing happened to Humanity, regardless of country, and regardless of religion - even to the vast majority of the Muslims all over the world. It is and will be as difficult for Muslims to oppose Islamic Fundamentalist fanatics as it was for Christians to oppose the Inquisition in the Middle Ages - any deviation is heresy, any opponents must be possessed by evil spirits. Let's not forget that moderate Muslims in northern Afghanistan are fighting, actively opposing the Taliban. Not all Iranian Muslims agree with their government either. One Taliban religious leader has been quoted as saying, "There are only 2 appropriate places for a woman - in her home and in her grave." They obviously don't have the right to express there opinion on an internet forum. Tolerance is the key to everything - which incidently means sometimes hearing opinions you don't agree this.

    3. Sorry Wayne if I raised your hopes. I just want to say what a relief it was to see ONE on-topic message (just one, yours) in the latest NIR-ANTRIM-D batch! It would be nice if for a while there was some way of screening out off-topic messages, especially the agitated ones, but even the kind ones. In the meantime I'll try very hard to come up with something hugely interesting and relating directly to our interest in the lives and times of our Antrim ancestors and their families. 3. I'm glad I'm not as cynical as this last message from Ron & Carol. My son is in the reserves and while I would rather he stay home, I accept HIS decision to go. I have seen the horror of this past week but I have seen the beauty of Americans in their generosity with blood, food and clothing, their patience in air lines, their understanding of a stranger's grief and the incredible courage of those who are still digging regardless of the horror they see as they dig and the danger they are in. As a teacher of English to foreigners who have come to this wonderful country, I have seen the hurt in their eyes for us and their very gernerous donations "since they can't help in new York". I have heard about the recruiting offices having so many YOUNG people coming to join up. I think you are looking at the donut hole (which every donut has) but I'm glad I have much more donut. Since I am not perfect, I don't expect my country to be perfect but its the best I can find and I'll stick with it. 1. We're crashing "For a Time Such as This" Please don't tell me to "Have a nice day." Please don't say to me to "Get back to normal." Get back to normal? God forbid. And don't give me that old simplistic standard that "if we don't go on with our lifestyle as it was, they won." It is not a playground. It is a battlefield. What was normal? That normal world that let our military sink into such conditions that we can barely muster for battle, much less have decent places for soldiers to live? That normal world where we reduced patriotism and love for the flag to such an extent that uncommitted young people have to be recruited to serve the greatest nation that ever was? That normal world that let corporate giants put local grocery and hardware stores and clothing stores and many other retail services out of business so there are few true business owners who are committed to the community and profits are funneled off to remote investors who never heard of Las Cruces? That normal world where we wanted to buy the cheapest toaster? That normal world that lets babies be destroyed before they have a chance for a first breath and that confused the meaning of life so that teen-agers throw themselves off cliffs at 95 miles an hour? If their would-be siblings and schoolmates and their own present or future unborn infants are not worth anything, then why would they think they themselves are? That normal world where we raise womb survivors in a world polluted by pornography in magazines, catalogs, newspaper ads, billboards? By our support of movies that purport to be the best and the cutest and the funniest, yet are laced with explicit sex and explicit killings? By our support of organizations that in turn support "abortion on demand" which includes the killing of babies nearly ready for birth? By supporting the use of legal mind-altering drugs and giving weak and occasional voice against the illegal ones? That normal world where the remains of United States citizens are engorged with food and other hedonistic entertaining lusts? That normal world where you walk down the corridor of high school and hear the worst of vile language that has become our kids' standard lingo? Where far too many of those same kids go on to all-expenses-paid-by-working-people college, and who then go on to graduate without being able to spell? Or compose a decent letter? Or think? Where a baccalaureate degree now means little? That normal world where we sit by while perverted jury verdicts and judges are bought by the trickiest and highest paid lawyers, making a laughingstock of justice? That normal world, where because criminals get to walk free, I can't walk down a dark street in any city in this country without preparing for robbery or rape or worse? That normal world where television and other news media have chosen one side? And where they weep over outcomes of the very political decisions they have influenced, perhaps not even understanding their own connection? Where they finally and supposedly turn to God when before that, many causes that they supported were in direct conflict with His Word? That normal world where power to protect has been stolen from the CIA and our military, diluted into health and welfare giveaways, and put us on our knees against demonic world forces whose only aim is to destroy us? That normal world where we teach our young people that there is no meaning to anything? Where terrorists take over the United States of America and we teach each other to pretend that nothing happened? As if we can turn this off like we do a sitcom or a movie or anything else we're not enjoying? That normal world where I am not permitted to freely state my concerns about the takeover of my country's borders and culture by people who would wrongly use its resources and who hate me? In memory and heartfelt respect, I quote Thomas Burnett, hero of United Flight 93. "A group of us are going to do something." And Jeremy Glick, another hero of Flight 93. "If our fate is to die, we should fight." How I wish I had the honor of sharing that flight with these people and the other brave persons who helped them overcome evil. We are crashing anyway. So don't tell me to have a nice day. And if having a bad day means to forsake popularity, stand for morality, risk the loss of my job or indeed my life, then the least I can do in remembrance of my precious nation is to have a bad day. And as God said through one servant to another dear servant, Esther, "For a Time Such As This You Were Born." And she responded, "If I perish, I perish." "A group of us are going to do something." "If our fate is to die, we should fight." The fight must include picking up more than the rubble in New York and Washington, D.C. Then we might actually have the privilege to ask God for mercy. Signed with love for my country and trust in Jesus for the outcome of the final battle, Sunnie Bell Las Cruces
