To Chris Dunlop, well-known chronicler of the Dunlops from Coleraine - G'dye. Glad to know you are reading on this Board, all the way from Cairns. Presume that by now, you know who Britney Spears is. To Glenda - Other localities near Kirkinriola parish (near Ballymena) include the towns of Cullybackey, Ahoghill and Craigs, and the townland of Ballywatermoy. My WISEMAN ancestors come from Ballywatermoy, and were there until 1837 when they (some of them) came to the Hudson Valley in NY State. I also believe that my DUNLAP ancestry came from this same area at about the same time, and may have originated in the nearby town of Antrim. Other local families connected in one way or another to the WISEMANs include folks named NUTT and KERNOCHAN. No Winnings that I know of, however. Thanks Chris but Belfast is a little too far for me to travel to <g>. Unfortunately I do not know a street as all I have to go on is his birth registration and it only lists Whiteabbey though it does say District Urban No. 7 but that probably doesn't help either. Well thanks for trying anyways. Good day. Jackie in Toronto, Ontario, Canada Chris Morgan wrote: > > Chris thanks for replying. I am new to the list, and trying to find very elusive ancestors. My gg grandfather was Peter WINNING. He was born (according to army discharge papers) in the 'parish of Kirkin*iola (maybe 's'), near the town of Ballymena' in 1835. I can't find any trace of this place - anyone out there know it? He joined the army in 1852 and went to India for about 16 years. He then moved to Dublin where he married (1) Ellen Hill and (2) Catherine Dowman (Doman), my gg grandmother. Also looking for John WINNING, born (again according to army discharge papers) in Randalstown in 1836. He joined the army in Belfast in 1855. On discharge, he also went to Dublin, and was living at the same address in Dublin as Peter WINNING in 1876. I have no record of him other than this at present due to various family mysteries! These two may be brothers or cousins. If anyone recognizes this family I would love to hear from them. Many thanks for your time. Glenda Boulter England
Looking for pre 1879 info on McAuley and Kirk families, specifically William John Mcauley (marble cutter) married to Mary Kirk, and living on Bradford Street in Belfast in 1879. They were Catholic and married probably about 1878.

There is, but there may still be a lot of film to trawl through to find what you want - not least because our ancestors often weren't in the house we thought they would be on census day! The street directories are the only way to check if you aren't sure. I've spent hours (and a few £ getting my LDS FHC to order the films) searching to find the address - only to find they didn't actually live there in 1901! Not everyone appears in the directories, but Belfast City Library, PRONI and the Linen Hall Library in Belfast all have a good selection. It's about time somebody republished the one compiled in late 1900 for publication in 1901 - either in facsimile or on CD. Best of luck. In the end I took a 3 night trip to Belfast and still didn't find all the targets I set out to find. Hope to go again one day. Chris Morgan
I am looking for a John SMYTH who was named executor in his brother William SMYTH's will in Dauphin Co., PA. Will dated 27 May 1801, witnessed by John Smith and Henry Graham. Probated 26 September 1801 in Dauphin Co. Coexecutor was William's daughter Agnes Smyth. William was born in (we believe) Giant's Causeway, Co. Antrim, North Ireland between 1722 and 1751. Son, William, jr., was born there in 1771. They were active in Old Hanover (Presbyterian) church in Dauphin co. for four or five years in late 1790s and through William Sr.'s death in 1801. From there, the family moved to Center Co., PA, through William Jr.'s death in 1863, then to Seneca co., OH, and finally to Chicago, where my grandfather, J. Herb Smythe, was born, and my father, Herb Jr. was born and so was I (in 1924). I have had no contact with anyone who might have been descended from brother john, so I am delighted to hear from you. Where did your John go from PA? That SMITH spelling is always daunting, but must be dealt with! I published a book, The Smythe Sword, in 1992. It follows the family of William (d. 1801) down through our children and grandchildren. Since the book, even some great grands! If you'd like a copy, it is $40 plus $2 p & h, from me: Alice Smythe McCabe 2045 Northland Dr. Lawrenceville, GA 30044 770- 963-9584
> Silly question possibly but does anyone have access to the 1901 census > for Belfast/Templepatrick area and be able to tell me what information > is required for a lookup. > Thanks Jackie The 1901 Census is available on microfilm from LDS FHC's worldwide, usually by prior order, and at PRONI in Belfast and in Dublin. Unfortunately there is, as yet, no name index. In order to find an individual you will need an exact address. Even then it will take some finding, so anyone doing a look-up will need accuracy of both names and locations. There may not be many volunteers! Good luck. Chris Morgan Sheffield
Chris thanks for replying. I used to think no one wanted to answer my requests but now I can see I was probably asking for something almost impossible. Thanks for letting me know. Dear List: I am trying to trace my great great grandfather, William Maude. His wife's name was Ann Crothers. They died around 1913/14 in Belfast. I would appreciate any help. The only thing I know of this gentleman is that he was active in the Methodist Church. Marion W.
There is a street index for the 1901 census, so if you know the street, you can quickly find the right roll of film(s). At the FHL in Salt Lake City there is also an effort underway to index the enumeration districts, so you will be able to quickly find the street on the film. I tried it out and it worked pretty well. Researching McCormick and Boyd in Antrim Andy Airriess

Appreciate the warning. I guess this highlights the need to keep virus software and definitions up to date! Hope you manage to disinfect your system without incurring any damage. Sorry everone, I have just had a virus which attach to my address book, Please do not open any attachments from me, BADTRAMS "Sorry about yesterday", this the virus. To be honest I'm not sure if it would send to list, but I'm trying to warn everyone in my address book Sorry Toni & Paul Cairns
I had a virus with this name a few months back. According to McAfee, it was a password stealing worm virus. It even gets into your backup files so that even if you think you have deleted the virus, it keeps reinfecting. It wasn't hard to get rid of, just a bit time consuming. Vicki Hunter
Silly question possibly but does anyone have access to the 1901 census for Belfast/Templepatrick area and be able tp tell me what information is required for a lookup. Thanks Jackie

I am looking for the birth of Charles Kinney (RC) in Belfast. His Army records give two dates in 1892, 2nd August and 23rd September. A younger brother, Laurence, was born 31st December 1893. The parents were Charles Kinney & Mary Kinney (nee Burns & born in Glasgow). The brothers were said to have been orphaned at a young age. A Mary Kinney died in the workhouse in Belfast on 7th April 1896 aged 32. Laurence was killed in Flanders on 1st Jan 1916. Charles died in 1944. I have not found a death for the father or his marriage to Mary Burns. Charles Gerald was told that his father died in the Boer War. Are workhouse records available (Belfast? Dublin?) I do hope that you will be able to help for Charles Kinney was my father. Many thanks Laurence Kinney
