    1. Re: New Listing for BOLTON.WALLACE.
    2. I don't think the English included Ireland in the 1881 census, could be wrong. Here are a couple of links which give good advice on what's available on irish family research. http://www.rootsweb.com/~fianna/guide/index.html this one has census info. http://www.rootsweb.com/~fianna/guide/census.html Also the section about civil registration of births/marriages/deaths in Ireland might be of use to you. This site says that there is a Kilrea in Co. Derry and Co. Armagh, enter the place name in the Townlands or civil parish box for more details. http://www.seanruad.com/ You may be able to obtain info on the births/marriage from the appropriate parish records. Given the date of 1940 for the marriage, PRONI may be willing to do a three year search around the date for the record. For 1904, Dublin GRO will do the same search. If you don't have a LDS Family History Center that you can get to, the above might be worth trying. There is contact details for Dublin GRO and PRONI on the first website, also doing a websearch with Google will find websites for both places, they might have more recent details on cost etc. Colman Ahern, Berkeley.

    1. Re: Aghagallon RC church records - more info.
    2. I don't think the LDS have the RC registers for Aghagallon on film, at least I couldn't find them listed anywhere. Here is what Ryan's Irish Records says: ANTRIM. RC parishes. Civil Parish: Aghagallon RC Parish: Aghagallon and Ballinderry Earliest Record: b. 4.1828 m. 5.1828 d.3.1828 Missing Dates: 7.1848 - 5.1872 Status: Local Custody (meaning with the PP). National Library of Ireland on microfilm (these are films of the actual parish registers). Indexed by UHF (probably computer transcripts of the registers). The same transcripts are probably available through PRONI. Colman Ahern, Berkeley.

    2. Hi, The following has contact info for Aghagallon: http://www.downandconnor.org/old/Country/aghagallon.htm It's one of several websites listed at this: http://www.downandconnor.org/ which is one of many sites listed at: http://home.att.net/~Local_Catholic/Catholic-Ireland.htm Which gives good info if you are looking for RC parish info/records in Ireland. The Down and Connor site is very slow so give it time. St. Patrick's is probably the church you are looking for, there is an address etc for the PP. Colman Ahern Berkeley.

    3. Sorry Mike. I don't know if the church still exists. Maybe someone on the list will have that information and will let us know. But in another book "Irish Gravestone Inscriptions, A Guide to Sources in Ulster" by William O'Kane & Eoin Kerr, Editors, I copied the following: Listed under County Antrim: Civil parish: Aghagallon Cemetery: St Patrick Denomination: RC Hopefully the church will have the same name. I also found a note that the church Records are in Proni, as mentioned, and also at the National Library in Dublin. Let me know if you have any luck with the LDS films. MaureenH PS To All: I only have these notations not the books. > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------ > > Subject: Re: Aghagallon RC church records > Date: Mon, 28 Jan 2002 09:45:52 -0800 (PST) > From: Michael Garland <[email protected]> > To: [email protected] > > Thanks Maureen, I will definitely follow-up with the local LDS. > > Do you know if the Church still exists? > > Regards, > > Mike > --- Maureen Hauge <[email protected]> wrote: > > Michael, > > > > From the 'Guide to Church Records': > > > > R.C. 2. Karen Gaffney
    3. Hi Maureen, Does your guide say anything about a place called CrossKeys? I have family (Keenan, Hammill, Sedgewich) from the area which seems not to exist on the maps. The only remnant is the CrossKeys Inn in Ardnaglass, which belongs to the Ballyscullion Grange Civil Parish. The Lewis Topographical Dictionary of Ireland says of the Ballyscullion Grange: "BALLYSCULLION, a grange, in the barony of TOOME, county of ANTRIM, and province of ULSTER, 4 miles (N. W.) from Randalstown; containing 3351 inhabitants. This place, which is an extra-parochial district never having paid either church cess or tithe, is situated on the road from Portglenone to Antrim, and is bounded on the north-west by the river Bann; it comprises, according to the Ordnance survey, 4279ΒΌ statute acres. There is no provision for the cure of souls; the members of the Established Church attend divine service in the contiguous parish of Duneane, in the diocese of Connor. In the R. C. divisions it forms part of the union or district of Ballyscullion, in the diocese of Derry; the chapel is a small plain building; there is also a place of worship for Presbyterians." I noticed that you mentioned the Diocese of Connor. Not being familiar with Irish records or placenames I am not sure what to make of this in terms of R.C. Church lookups. By the way, what does SLC refer to? Thanks, Karen -----Original Message----- From: Maureen Hauge [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: 25 January 2002 05:29 To: [email protected] Subject: Aghagallon RC church records Michael, From the 'Guide to Church Records': R.C. 3. Hi Listers, I am still trying to get a lead on the death of Hugh McCORMICK who died - without, apparently, being registered - between 1935 and 1946 in Belfast. I have hit a complete brick-wall. Is there a VERY SKS who would give me a hint as to how to procede? Would a Belfast newspaper have an obituary column? Which Newspapers were around in Belfast in the 30's/40's? Please, please somebody help. Hoping muchly, Jeanne McCormick

    2. These newspapers may be on microfilm for the years you mentioned, try contacting your local library they might at least have info on where to find them. Have you searched the civil registration of deaths in Ireland indexes yourself, if not you should. See if there is an LDS Family History Center nearby, if they don't have the death indexes on film for those years they will order them for you, it doesn't cost much. Here is a website which has info re Antrim/Down records, newspapers, civil reg etc. http://www.rootsweb.com/~finna/county/index1.html Colman Ahern, Berkeley.

    2. Simone Huitson
    3. I've just subscribed to this list, so I thought I'd start by mailing my family history in Antrim. I'm tracing an Agnes BOYLE, b. 13th March 1885 in Casheltown, Portglenone to John BOYLE and Mary (nee MCDONALD). I don't know anything about her brothers or sisters, but Mary Boyle's parents were James MCDONALD and Mary DARAGH. Agnes went on to marry Thomas MCPEAK(E) who was from Derry, son of Thomas MCPEAK and Susan (nee QUINN). I would welcome anyone tracing a similar line - I'm working from certificates I have and as I've not searched in Irish records yet I would also welcome information on tracing Irish ancestry using census/church records etc. A bit OT, but I read some past messages to this list already, and noticed there was someone tracing COWARD in England - I'm also tracing that name and although it's a very common name, it could be worth comparing notes. Simone

    2. Michael Garland
    3. I'm researching my Garland ancestors from Co. Antrim who were Roman Catholic. My great grandfather James Garland was born in Lurgill, Ballinderry in August 1865 and immigrated to Canada in 1887 and then to the US in 1890. His father (my great-great grandfather) was also James Garland and was married to Alice Tipping in 1863. They had a least two children; namely, James and Hugh. I believe Alice died and James remarried Ann McCavagan. Together they produced two more children - Anna (b. 1876) and John (b. 1881). They may have lived in Derryclone, Aghagallon at the time. I do know they worshiped at Aghagallon Church (Roman Catholic.) I believe my great-great-great grandfather was also James Garland born in 1799 in Lurgill and married Rachel Ferris in 1826. Between 1820 and 1846, they had several children; namely, John, Eleanor, Jane, Elizabeth, James, William, and Richard. If what I have described above sounds at all familiar or even of slight interest, I'd sure like to hear from you. All the best, Mike Garland Rochester, NY, USA __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Send FREE video emails in Yahoo! Mail! http://promo.yahoo.com/videomail/
