This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Hinkebein Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/ZVC.2ACE/3975 Message Board Post: I am trying to track down my anccestors in Germany. Meinrod Hinkebein was born in 1815 in Germany (the US census says Hanover). He immigrated to the U.S. around 1849. The only potential match I have found is this: Hinkebein, Meinert * 1818, Wohnort: Bookholt (Nordhorn), eingew. 1847 [StAOs] Rep 350 Neuhs., 668 From this page http://www.dialogos-studies.com/BIS-emigrants.html The source is listed as StAOs Rep 350 Nr 668. I have seen this source listed for other people on this page and other German genealogy pages (with different Rep and Nr numbers). Does anyone know what StAOs is? I am thinking it is like the church log book for St Augustino's or something along those lines. Is there any way to see what Rep 350 Nr 668 says? Is there any way to look through more of the source in hopes of finding a listing for my guy's birth? I'm going to a Hinkebein family reunion in a couple weeks and it would be great to be able to answer some of these questions.
StAOs is likely the State Archives in Osnabrück (Staatsarchiv Osnabrück). Here is a link to a page (in English) which describes how someone used the search feature for the Staatsarchiv Osnabrück: http://www.mail-archive.com/hannover-l@genealogy.net/msg08663.html --- myquealer@gmail.com wrote: > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to > this mailing list. > > Surnames: Hinkebein > Classification: Query > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/ZVC.2ACE/3975 > > Message Board Post: > > I am trying to track down my anccestors in Germany. > Meinrod Hinkebein was born in 1815 in Germany (the > US census says Hanover).
