Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/ZVC.2ACE/3991.2 Message Board Post: Kerald, the town of Grünenplan -- or if written without the "Umlaut" (two dots) over the "u", Gruenenplan -- was NOT in the state (until 1918, Kingdom) of Prussia (in German: Preussen; capital: Berlin). Grünenplan was located in the District (in German: Kreis) of Holzminden in what was until 1945 the very small state (until 1918, Duchy) of Brunswick (in German: Braunschweig), the capital of which was the city of Brunswick (Braunschweig), where the Duke resided. Following World War II and the break-up of the huge state of Prussia, the Prussian province of Hanover, the state of Oldenburg, and the two very small states of Brunswick (Braunschweig) and Schaumburg-Lippe combinded to form today's German state of Lower Saxony (in German: Niedersachsen), with the city of Hanover (in German: Hannover) as its capital. Grünenplan is no longer an independent town. Since 1974, it has been part of the town of Delligsen. Delligsen has a total population of about 9000 people, of whom about 3000 live in Grünenplan. Grünenplan wasn't actually a village (Dorf). It was a town (Gemeinde). Here is the link to a map of pre-1945 Brunswick (Braunschweig), so that you know what it looked like. It was made up of a number of enclaves covering together an area just a little smaller than that covered by the U.S. state of Rhode Island. To the southwest, you will see the enclave that included the city of Holzminden. Grünenplan is right near Holzminden. http://www.gonschior.de/weimar/Braunschweig/uebersichtskarte.html And here is the link to a map of Germany and its states today. In the north, you will see today's state of Lower Saxony (Niedersachsen), of which Brunswick (Braunschweig), located in the southern part, is one of the four components: http://www.rootsweb.com/~wggerman/state.htm Robert
