Neither of the cities you mention are anywhere even in the vicinity of this part of Germany. The city of Chemnitz is located in the state of Saxony (in German: Sachsen; capital: Dresden; largest city: Leipzig), and Gera is located in the state of Thuringia (in German: Thüringen; capital: Erfurt). So I would suggest that you post your query again, both on the Saxony and the Thuringia messages boards, so that people familiar with those cities and families from them and who might thus have useful information for you will see it.
