I have traced his family to the area around Thorn (Torun )and Bromberg (Bydgoszcz), at least for the years between 1864 and 1890.. Both are on the Vistula (Weichsel) River about 95 miles due South of Danzig (Gdansk). Basic information on this part of the “Haase” family follows... Great grandparents: Johann Haase and Juliana Ann Behnke..No data on birth or marriage dates. Believed to have come from area around Thorn and Bromberg, West Prussia. Grandfathers name: Johann “John” Julius Haase Born: May 19, 1880. Emigrated to USA in 1903, settled in Chicago. A tailor by trade. On June-3-1907 he married Clara nee Grochowske, in Chicago, IL. A Mason and a member of the Lutheran Evangelical & Reformed Church. Grandfathers Siblings: Ida Haase :Born: July 1860, Married Karl Retzke. Emigrated to the USA. Maximillian Haase:...Born between 1861 and 1879. Died at 21 years of age . Family lore has him moving (or being moved) while in his late teens first to Hannover, then to Holzminden and Bad Driberg. NOTE: One school of thought was that the family came from this area prior to moving to West Prussia Anne-Martha Haase:..Also born between 1861 and 1879. Married in Germany and had at least six sons. Husband dies during WW1. Anna Haase: Born: Approx. 1882 to '86. Married “Hintz”in Germany. Daughter “Luzi” born in Germany. Confirmed in Spandau in 1925.
